We have a couple of blood drives coming up in June in South Central South Dakota. There will be a drive at the Colome Legion on Tuesday, June 13th from 1:30-5:30pm. The third annual South Dakota State University Youth Livestock Judging Camp will be held on the SDSU Campus in two sessions. Session one will be held June 4th through the 6th and session two will be held June 8th through the 10th. This is open to youth ages 8 to 18. Registration will close today (May 26th). The Winner City Pool is set to open to the public in seven days! Opening day is Thursday, June 1st. You can stop by the Winner City Office this week to get your passes for the summer. The pool will be open Monday’s through Saturday’s from 12noon to 7pm and on Sunday’s pool hours will be from noon to 5pm. The lifeguards and staff are looking forward to seeing you at the pool!
Don’t forget that a customer service seminar will take place this afternoon. The free seminar will be held from 1-4pm at the 4-H Center in Winner. Dee Dee Rapp will speak on how great customer service can grow your business. This event seminar and is sponsored by SD Tourism, Tripp County and the Winner Area Chamber of Commerce.
A community health fair will be held on Friday, June 2nd from 7:30am-1:30pm at Winner Regional Healthcare Center. There will be a free community breakfast to get things kicked off from 6:30-9:30am. There will be free and reduced cost health screenings- $20 for Lipid, Glucose and Hemoglobin, $5 for thyroid and $25 for Vitamin D. Sanford heart screens and vascular screens will be done from 7am-3:30pm and will be twenty five dollars. To schedule a screening call 842-7153.
A Country Music and Fiddlers Jamboree will be held this Friday, May 28th in Springview, Nebraska! There will be an afternoon jam session at the Springview Activity Center and the Jamboree will begin at 7pm at the Springview Elementary Multi-Purpose Room. Admission will be done by donation and the proceeds will benefit the Keya Paha County Historical Society.
The Midwest Bucking Bull Association Bull riding and Bucking Bull competition will happen this Saturday, May 27th at the Shippy Ranch south of Colome! Yearling and two year old futurity will get things underway at 10am. Classic and maturity events will happen at 5pm in the indoor arena. The River City Rumble Demolition Derby will happen this Saturday at 1pm in Chamberlain! The site is located off Interstate 90, Exit 265, a quarter mile north and three miles east of the Dairy Queen. The first place demo prize is $1200, second is $700 and third place is $400. Truck heat prizes are $500 and a trophy. The big event is being sponsored by ECO EVENTS, Chamberlain Builders, Chamberlain Livestock, Upper Crust Pizza and Wings, Birkeland Enterprise, BGS Junkyard, LMT Lending and TY Racing.
The Avenue of Flags needs your help for Memorial Day weekend at the Winner Cemetery. Sunday at 1pm, come help place small flags and crosses on the graves of veterans. At 4pm, there will be the placing of the flag poles by holes. On Memorial Day at 6am, they will put the flags in the poles. At 7am, stop by the American Legion for rolls, coffee and juice. At 4pm, they will remove, fold and store flags and store the flag poles.
There will be a free Farm and Ranch Clinic that will be held on Thursday, June 1st in Valentine at the Cherry County Extension Office. This clinic specializes in legal and financial issues relating to farming and ranching, financial planning, estate and transition planning, farm loan programs, debtor/creditor law, water and other relevant matter.
