Golf results from Saturday

Five golf tournaments took place in the area on Saturday. In Murdo, Mike and Nancy Beardt beat Tom and Amy Cameron in a playoff to win the co-ed tournament. In Presho, Patrick Donovan and John England shot a 3 under to win the two person, par three tournament. In Burke, the Platte men defeated Burke for the Battle of the Bridge by a half point in sudden death as Ross Van Zee and Randy Veurink brought home the trophy to Charles Mix County. The Frontier Motors Open was won by the team of Anthony Husher and John Halverson as the guys shot a 66 in the championship flight. Rich Crow Eagle and Justice Morrison won the Championship Flight at Saturday’s Memorial Tournament in Gregory.

In Little League Baseball on Friday, the Gregory 1 Majors beat Burke, 5-1. The Valentine Majors shutout Winner Gold, 15-0. In Major League Baseball, the Texas Rangers defeated the Minnesota Twins last night, 8-1.


Gregory fifth graders holding fundraiser at Buche Foods today

The Gregory Fifth Grade Boys Basketball team is holding a burger/brat fundraiser from 11-1 today at the Buche Foods parking lot. This is a fundraiser to help support the team as they will be playing in Minneapolis June 29th and 30th next weekend in the Great Five State Championships at the Target Center. They will be competing against teams from North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.

In Junior Teener Baseball last night, Colome fell to Valentine in game one of their doubleheader, 18-3. Colome was able to bounce back and win game two by a final of 18-9. The Gregory Junior Teeners defeated Mission, 11-1 while the Gregory Teeners were victorious over Mission, 22-1. In little league baseball, the Lyman Rookies beat Clearfield, 2-1. The Clearfield Minors beat Lyman, 11-0 while the Clearfield Majors shutout Lyman, 8-0. In a junior legion doubleheader, Winner/Colome swept Onida, 7-3 and 9-7. In a makeup girls softball game, the Winner 12U team beat Colome, 9-8. In amateur baseball last night, Winner/Colome defeated Mt. Vernon, 9-5. Derek Graesser struck out 15 while Drew Weber had three hits. In White lake, Plankinton beat Kimball/White Lake, 3-0. In the river city, Chamberlain outslugged Miller, 10-6. Jake Byre led the Mallards with four hits while Ryan Randall drove in two runs. The South Central Storm took down 4 Corners, 6-5. Paul Taggart earned the win on the mound while Ethan Vobr and Jake Luse had two hits apiece.

In girls softball last night, the Winner 18U team swept a doubleheader against Gregory in two competitive games as Winner came out on top, 10-5 and 9-7. In 14U Softball, Burke defeated Winner, 16-1. The Colome 14U team beat Chamberlain in a high scoring game, 8-7. Platte defeated the Clearfield 12U team, 13-2. The Winner 12U team beat Burke, 10-8. In Junior Teener Baseball last night, Parkston beat Kimball/White Lake, 11-1. The Kimball/White Lake Teeners shutout Parkston, 6-0. In Major League Baseball, the Twins beat David Price and the Red Sox, 4-1. Max Kepler and Robbie Grossman both launched home runs in the victory.

Six golf tournaments scheduled for Saturday

It will be a very busy Saturday in the area for golf tournaments! The Frontier Motors Open will be held at the Winner Country Club. The Memorial Tournament will happen in Gregory. The Battle of the Bridge tournament will take place in Burke. A couples tournament will be happening in Platte. A two person, par three tournament is scheduled to take place in Presho while a co-ed tournament will take place in Murdo.
