Election results

Elections took place in our area. Results of those elections are as follows:

In the City of Winner, for Mayor Jody Brozik received 348 votes and Frank Finney 269 votes. Jody will become the new Mayor of Winner. In Ward 1 for City Council Dave Baker received 107 votes and Roger Root received 95 votes. Dave will keep his seat on the council. For the Main street ordinance there were 347 No votes and 270 Yes votes. Main Street will stay as a one-way.

In the Colome School District, Mathew Bolie received 236 votes, Brent Gill 165 votes, Pamela Haukass 151 votes, and Vince Thieman 113 votes. Matt, Brent and Pamela will fill the 3 seats on the school board.

In the City of Burke, in Ward 2 Vickie Dobesh received 71 votes while Dennis Hoffman received 21 votes. Vickie will keep her seat in Ward 2. In Ward 3 incumbent Mark Benter received 22 votes and Tyler Van Metre also received 22 votes. The winner of Ward 3 will be decided at a later date and we will let you know those results when they have them.

In the City of Presho for Councilman in Ward 2 Chad Penny received 41 votes and Anthony Urban received 20 votes. In the referred resolution to vacate the portion of Birch Avenue, there were 119 votes in favor of closing the street and 56 votes not in favor.

Kennebec had an election for 2 Trustee’s. Rod Bower received 56 votes, Hunter Schindler received 47 votes and Ben Oldenkamp received 46 votes. Rod and Hunter will be the new trustee’s.

Six more proms in our area this week

Six of our area schools are celebrating prom this week: Lyman, Valentine, White River, Rock County, Todd County and Burke Schools will have prom ceremonies on Saturday night. Be listening to KWYR News this week as we will hear from representatives from each school telling us about their prom festivities. Have a fun and safe prom week guys and gals!

Elections take place this Tuesday.

We have elections taking place in our area on Tuesday. Here is what will be on the ballots.

The City of Winner will vote for Mayor this year. On the ballot will be Frank Finney and Jody Brozik. There will also be an election for City Council member in Ward 1. Roger Root and Dave Baker are running for this position. Residents in the City of Winner will also vote on an ordinance to amend the designation of Main Street as a one-way street.

The Colome school district will vote on 3 school board members. Candidates are Mathew Bolie, Brent Gill, Vince Thieman and Pamela Haukass.

Burke will have an election in Wards 2 and 3. In Ward 2 incumbent Vickie Dobesh is running against Dennis Hoffman. In Ward 3 incumbent Mark Benter is running against Tyler Van Metre.

Presho will elect a new Councilman in Ward 2. Chad Penny and Anthony Urban will be on the ballot. The City of Presho will also vote for a referred resolution to vacate the portion of Birch Avenue that lies between the corner of Birch and 2nd Street and the corner of Birch and 3rd Street.

Kennebec will vote for two Trustee’s for a 3 year term. Candidates are Rod Bower, Ben Oldenkamp, and Hunter Schindler.

Again, polling places will be open on Tuesday from 7am to 7pm.

Lincoln Day dinner to happen tonight

Just a reminder that a Lincoln Day dinner will be happening at West River Tap in Winner tonight. Social hour will begin at 5:30 and a prime rib dinner will be served starting at 6. Tickets are just forty dollars and can be purchased in advance at First Fidelity Bank in Winner or they can be purchased at the door.

Critter Bash to happen Sunday

The Tripp County Critter Bash will be happening this Sunday, April 8th at the Black Lab on Main Street in Winner. Rick Kucera invites everyone to stop by and enjoy some great food that will be served starting at 4pm for a free will offering, with the proceeds going to Dakota Senior Meals. At 5:30, there will be the drawings of prizes starting with the guns first. Kucera mentioned to us on Thursday that a total of 1,383 critters were donated by the community for the 2018 Critter Contest!

White Lake students win academic contest!

A group of White Lake studetns went to Mitchell yesterday and won the Custer Battlefield Academic Festival! The annual event featured students from nine schools. Kathryn Nightingale was first in biology and grammar two. Grace Konechne was first in geometry. Travis Geyer was first in literature four, Jayden Gonzalez was first in Physical Science while Tyler Hallman was first in senior math advanced.

Big fishing event coming to Platte

The Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit is coming to Lake Francis Case in Platte on Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28th! Weigh-ins will be at 3pm. The event is free and open to the public. There will be a free kids and family fishing clinic that will be put on by the NPAA after the weigh-ins on Friday. The first fifty kids will get a free rod and reel. Chamberlain prom information

Prom night is Saturday for Chamberlain students! At 7pm, individual pictures will begin and all couples need to take a picture, even if they are not purchasing a packet. At 8pm, group pictures will begin followed by the grand march at 8:30 (one dollar admission). Doors for post prom will close at 1:30am. Post prom will end at 6am. Have a fun and safe prom guys and gals!

Opening weekend at Carlock Dance Hall!

The Carlock Dance Hall will proudly welcome Molly B to their stage on Saturday, April 7th with two shows! The 1 to 5pm show tickets are only available online at squeezeboxband.com. Tickets for the second show (which runs 7-11pm) can be purchased by calling Dennis Hansen at 835-8034. They hope to see you this weekend at Carlock!
