Rain reports from Friday

Several warnings were issued Friday afternoon and evening in central South Dakota and Nebraska. Heavy rain fell, and some parts of the area saw hail as well. The Valentine Fire Department and mutual aid agencies were on the scene at a structure fire at the Bull Market. Gregory had straight line winds and turbulent weather causing some damage to the Gregory auditorium, buckled grain bins at the elevator and downed trees and uprooted trees. We’ve received several rain reports: At the Joe Bolton Ranch, south of Dallas, they received an inch and a half. Jared Leber reported an inch at the Leber Ranch. William Soles said he got an inch,one five miles east of Gregory. Rhonda Waterbury received an inch,36 in Gregory with wind damage reported and trees down in the area. The Winner Country Club had an inch and a half of rain fall. Liz Farley had an inch 85 southwest of Winner. Cheryl Schroeder received .88 in Winner. Dennis Hansen at Carlock received .87. Fred Weidner had an inch fall at Dog Ear Lake. Pete Haukaas received just .10 southeast of Okreek. Short Haley had an inch 25 at his residence in Colome and .97 at Haley’s Hiway Lumber. Donna Howland received an inch of rain in Winner. Darnell Swanson received an inch 20 near Clearfield. Laura Reuer in Herrick received .60. Lori DeMers received an inch at the DeMers Ranch, South of Colome. Jerome Ollerich received two inchesn west of Clearfield with some hail but no damage was done.

 

Love my Life Photo Contest ongoing in Winner

A love my life photo contest is ongoing now until June 11th in Tripp County. All photos need to be taken in Tripp County. The contest is open to everyone. Those under the age of 18 need to have consent of a parent or guardian. Submitted photos will be put on display at Winner Summer Nights on June 14th and everyone will be allowed to vote on their favorite. Submit your phots to the Winner Area Chamber of Commerce.

Female mentors needed in the area

Female mentors who are alcohol and drug free are wanted to meet with a group of girls ages 11-16 on a weekly basis. Mentors are needed in St. Francis, Parmalee, Antelope/Mission communities and Ideal/Winner communities. There will be compensation for all meetings and trainings. If you are interested call Cheryl at the White Buffalo Calf Women’s Society at 856-2317.

North Star ABATE to hold event this weekend

North Star ABATE will have a ride for the Brooks Hurley Memorial this weekend. The ride will happen on Saturday, June 2nd. They will gather and leave from the Pheasant Bar in Winner at 1pm and will be making stops in the towns of Dallas, Gregory and Platte at Dock 44. They will end the day at the North Star followed by a potluck meal with a free will offering being taken. Everyone is welcome to join.

Ladies Fishing for a Cure Tournament coming up in July

The second annual “Fishing for a Cure” Ladies Fishing Tournament will happen in Chamberlain on July 7th. The ladies are seeking contributions to help defray the costs associated with the event so that all the funds can assist any community member that is battling cancer. Donations may be monetary or items for their raffle and auction. All funds raised will stay local and can be used for assistance defray the cost for gas, food, lodging or bill payments of any kind. Springfest is Saturday!

Springfest is coming up this weekend at St. Mary’s Hall in Winner on Saturday,  June 2nd! Doors will open at 5pm the evening of the big event. This year’s entertainment is Mike O’Donnell, who is a magician and illusionist. Tickets may be purchased at the Parish Office, Marty’s. here at KWYR or at SoDak Printers.

Memorial Day Services in Tripp and Gregory County

There will be a Memorial Day Service starting at 9am in Dixon, 9:30 services will be in Iona and there will be services at 11am this morning at the Gregory Auditorium. A services will be held at the Winner Cemetary starting at 11am and Derris Buus will be speaking. A Memorial Day Service will happen at the Colome Legion starting at 2pm and Toby Harter will be the speaker.

Opening weekend at the Winner Drive-In!

The Winner Drive-In Theater is celebrating its 68th season with opening night set for tonight! The season opener tonight through Memorial Day will be the inspirational hit movie, “I Can Only Imagine”. Get to the Drive-In early to get your spot, have the kids play on the playground and get your delicious items at the concession stand. The movie will start at dusk.

Thursday morning rain reports

We had many people call in rain reports this morning. Stan Bicek, ten miles south of Colome, report .80. Cheryl Schroeder in Winner said she received .32. Fred Weidner at Dog Ear Lake said he got half an inch of rain. Greg Assman, five miles west of Winner, received .20. Pete Haukaas in Okreek received just .13. Short Haley told Scott he received three quarters of an inch overnight in Colome and .37 at Haley’s Hiway Lumber. Monte Mayes, four miles west of Ideal, said he had .15 fall. Donna Howland in Winner said she received .47. Rick and Lynn Shippy received .30 five miles north of Winner.

Convention and Trade Show in Valentine today

Plan to attend the Sandhills Cattle Association’s 79th annual Convention and Trade Show that is happening in the heart city of Valentine, Nebraska today!
