Winner Class of '77 reunion dance to happen

The Winner High School Class of 1977 invites you to help them celebrate their 40th class reunion by attending their free all-class reunion dance on Friday, September 29th after the homecoming football game at St. Mary’s Hall in Winner. Doors will open at 8:30pm. Dance the night away to the sounds of Black Water from 9-1. There will be a cash bar provided by Sargent’s and a fundraising concession stand by the Spirit Gems. All honored classes, graduates and non graduates of Winner High School are welcome, but no one under the age of 21 will be admitted.

Final kids activity to happen Thursday in Burke

Remember you can checkout the Burke Farmers Market this Thursday on Main Street. On September 14th they will host free children’s garden activities in conjunction with the market. All activities will start at 5. This Saturday, you can head to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain and take a look at their farmers market! They are open from 8-noon.

Platte news

A reminder that the Goodwill trailer is at the Platte Food Center parking lot until Tuesday, September 12th. Goodwill accepts the following donations for resale: good, clean house ware, small furniture, clothing, shoes, electronics in working condition, cell phones and accessories. Coming up in October, there will be a blood drive at the Platte Community Center on October 10th from 12:30-6pm.

A busy Saturday at the Gregory City Park

There will be plenty happening this Saturday at the Gregory City Park as the annual Gregory/Dallas Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Harvest Festival! Things will kick off with Arts in the Park and a farmer’s market beginning at 2pm. The harvest festival will get underway at 5. There will be great food and family fun for everyone!

Geddes and Winner to hold blood drives soon

A blood drive will take place in Geddes on Wednesday, September 13th from 12:30-5:30 at the Geddes Legion Hall. Later this month on Wednesday, September 27th a blood drive will be held at the Winner American Legion from 11:30am-6pm. On September 28th a blood drive will once again take place at the Winner Legion running from 8am-12:45pm. To make an appointment call Annette at 842-1708.

Homecoming season is here!

It is homecoming week for three of our area schools- Ainsworth, Todd County and South Central Students are all celebrating Homecoming this week. Next week, students at Platte, Burke and White River Schools will celebrate. We hope all you students have a fun and safe time celebrating homecoming this year, and best of luck in all of your extra curricular activities too!

Thursday reminders

Remember that you can checkout the Burke Area Farmers Market on Main Street in Burke today! They will also be hosting children’s garden activites in conjunction with the markets for today and next Thursday, the 14th beginning at 5pm. Also happening today is the Neighborhood Consignment Auction starting at 10am at the Wayne Bultje Farm east of Platte. This is a very large auction going on today with a wide variety of items.

Veterans Appreciation Beef event set for Saturday

A backyard barbecue event recognizing all of our military veterans and their spouses will take place this Saturday at the American Creek Campground in Chamberlain! Local Barbecue masters will spend the day competing in a beef cook-off using either beef brisket or prime rib. Beef Bingo and a wine/beer tasting event will kick off at 4 pm. A meal featuring the brisket and prime rib along with trimmings will begin at 5:30. A program recognizing area veterans and sponsored by the American Legion and VFW begins at 6:30. All veterans and their spouses will eat for free. Tickets for the general public are $12.50 each.

Blood drives coming up next week

Coming up on Wednesday, September 13th, a blood drive will take place at the Sacred Heart Hall in White River from 2:30-5pm. If you want to make an appointment you can call Jan at 452-3270. Also on the 13th, a blood drive will happen at the Geddes Legion Hall from 12:30-5:30pm. On Thursday the 14th, a blood drive will take place from 8-11:45am at the Murdo Senior Citizens Center. To make an appointment call 669-2172.

State Rodeo Finals to happen in Valentine this weekend

The 2017 Nebraska State Rodeo Association Finals will be held this weekend in Valentine, September 8th through the 10th at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. The first performance on Friday will get underway at 6pm and the theme is ‘Tough Enough to Wear Pink’. Saturday, steer roping will get going at 9am. The second performance will start at 6pm Saturday and the theme will be ‘Patriot Night’. Sunday, Cowboy Church will be held at 9am followed by the final performance at 1pm. Adult tickets are ten dollars each and kids twelve and under get in for five dollars each.
