Free fundamental practices for girls softball

Girls Softball players:  Free fundamentals practices will begin Tuesday, April 2nd at the Winner Middle School Gym.  Contact Shawna Kaiser if you need additional details at 605-208-0027.  Registration for WGSA Summer softball or a waiver for insurance is required.  Every Tuesday schedule (until season practices start).

Ages 7-10, 6pm-6:45pm

Ages 10-14, 6:30pm-7:30pm

Ages 14 and up, 7pm

Lady Coyotes ready to battle Clemson tonight

Tonight, the eight seeded USD Lady Coyotes will take on nine seeded Clemson at 6pm central in Starkville, Mississippi in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Coyotes were able to get into the tournament with an at-large bid after they finished runner up in the Summit League Tournament. Clemson is making their first tournament appearance since 2002.USD enters tonight’s game with a 28-5 record.

Great Plains All-Conference team revealed

The Colome Cowboys had three guys make the Great Plains All-Conference Basketball team- Jackson Kinzer, Layton Thieman and Calvin Ringing Shield. Burke’s Jaden Frank made all-conference as well. Colome’s Makayla Shippy made all-conference for the Cowgirls, while Taylee Indahl of Burke made all-conference too.

Cournoyer named the Class A Player of the Year!

Congratulations to Todd County’s Raven Cournoyer on being named the Class A girls basketball player of the year! Raven averaged over 23 points per game and over six assists in her senior year for Todd County. Two Winner Lady Warriors were named to the Class A Basketball All-State second team- Bella Swedlund and Morgan Hammerbeck. Todd County’s Kelsie Herman made second team all-state as well. Chamberlain’s Mady Handel made third team all-state as she averaged 19 points per game this season.

Tuesday sports notes

In Men’s College Basketball last night, South Dakota State fell to Texas by a final score of 79-73. Mike Daum closed out his Jackrabbit career with a double double as he put up 25 points and 11 rebounds last night.

Locally, we want to say congratulations to White River’s Caelyn Valandra-Prue as she was named to the Class B Girls Basketball All-State First team. Caelyn averaged over 24 points a game this season for the Lady Tigers.

East/West Shootout results

A fun time was had by all in Gregory last night at the annual East/West Shootout that took place. The West Girls beat the East, 63-59. The East boys took down the West, 101-89. Winner’s Gabriel Kocer won the three point contest for the girls while Lahna Matucha of Burke was runner up. On the boys side, Chamberlain’s Louie Running Horse won the 3 point shootout while Jadice Morrison of White River was runner up.

3 Lady Warriors make first team all-SESD Conference squad

The state champion Winner Lady Warriors had three girls named to the first-team all-SESD squad. Those girls were Bella Swedlund, Morgan Hammerbeck and Gabriel Kocer. Chamberlain’s Mady Handel was named to the first-team all conference squad too. Kalla Bertram of Winner made second team all conference along with Gregory’s Jessy Jo VanDerWerff. Chamberlain’s Hannah Anderson made third team all-conference. On the boys side, Kelby VanDerWerff made the South Central all-conference team. Jackson Kinzer and Layton Thieman of Colome made all-conference along with Carter Frederickson, Kordel Kiehn, Javen Holan and Justin Becker of Kimball/White Lake. Platte-Geddes’ Hayden Stluka made the all-conference team as well, along with Burke’s Jaden Frank and Tommy and Coy Determan of Gregory. Making the honorable mention team were Colome’s Calvin Ringing Shield, Kade Star of Platte-Geddes and Tyson Mayer of Burke. In the girls South Central all-conference team, Kennedy Leifermann of Kimball/White Lake made the squad, along with her teammates Grace Konechne and Heather Munsen. Tori Weins, Dominique Girton and Maddie Miller made it for Platte-Geddes. Gregory’s Jessy Jo VanDerWerff was tabbed to the all-conference team along with her teammate Sydney Svatos. For Burke, Taylee Indahl and Lahna Matucha made all-conference. Making honorable mention were Colome’s Saydee Heath and Mikayla Shippy, Burke’s Sally Hakin and Gregory’s Megan Warnke.

East/West Shootout to happen in Gregory tonight

The annual East/West Shootout will take place tonight inside the Gregory Memorial Auditorium. Things will get underway with the girls senior all-star game beginning at 6:30pm. The girls contest will be followed by the three point boys and girls shootout followed by the boys senior all-star game. Come out and watch our area senior basketball players one final time this season! Jack Clark and Chris Doski will be the coaches.

Coaches Corner finale to air on Saturday

Chris Doski will bring you his final edition of Coaches Corner this Saturday on Country 1260 AM! Chris will visit with Jones County Boys Basketball Coach Neil Krogman, White River Tiger Coach Eldon Marshall, Todd County Lady Falcon Coach Bob Boyd and Winner Lady Warrior state champion head coach Larry Aaker beginning at 9am on Saturday morning to recap the fun weekend that was!
