The Dust Bowl co-ed softball tournament will be held June 10th in Naper, Nebraska in conjunction with their Cruise Night! There is a one hundred dollar entry fee for the tournament and a maximum of ten players limited to five girls and five guys. The payout will be determined on the number of teams. The 92nd annual Howard Wood Relays wrapped up Saturday in Sioux Falls. Locally, the Winner boys won both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays! Riley Calhoon, Isaac Naasz, Drew DeMers and Cameron Kuil ran a 44.27 4×100 relay to claim victory in that event. In the 4×2, Riley, Drew, Cameron and Brady Fritz ran that in 1:31:52 to grab the first place finish. In the boys 1600 sprint medley, Riley, Drew, Cameron and Izak Moleterno came in ninth place for Winner as they finished with a time of 3:41:31. In the boys class ‘B’ 4×200 meter relay, the team consisting of Chase Dufek, Jackson Kinzer, Holden Thieman and Beau Bertram finished sixth overall for Colome with a time of 1:35:06. For Gregory, Caleb Stukel, Joseph Veskrna, Jayd VanDerWerff and Robert Vomacka finished with a time of 1:37:25 for 12th. In the Class ‘B’ 1600 sprint medley, Burke/South Central finished eighth overall as Vladik Johnson, Taron Serr, Tyrone Mizner and Kray Person had a time of 3:48:87.  In the boys class ‘B’ 4×100 meter relay, Colome finished 11th as Dufek,Kinzer,Thieman and Bertram had a time of 46.44. In the girls 4×100 meter relay in class ‘B’, Candice Knutson, Katie Berens, Sarah Erickson and Kaetlyn Engebretson finished fourth overall for Platte/Geddes with a time of 53.01. For Colome, Matrix Noteboom, Kaydee Heath, Saydee Heath and Callie Heath came in fifth with a time of 53.01. In the girls 4×200 relay, Candice Knutson, Ally Holter, Alexis Peterson and Kaetlyn Engebretson for Platte/Geddes finished sixth with a time of 1:51:79.  In the girls class ‘A’ 4×400 meter relay, Winner’s team consisting of Alexis Richey, Chloe Bartels, Morgan Hammerbeck and Samantha Schuyler finished with a time of 4:15:15 for tenth place. In the girls class ‘B’ 4×400 meter relay, Platte/Geddes was ninth overall as Ally Holter, Alexis Peterson, Candice Knutson and Kaetlyn Engebretson finished with a time of 4:20:61. In the girls 400 meter dash, Todd County’s Caelyn Valandra-Prue was third with a time of 57.46. In the girls class ‘A’ 1600 sprint medley, Winner’s team that consisted of Bartels, Richey, Ellie Brozik and Sam Schuyler finished fifth with a time of 4:22:30. In the girls class ‘B’ 1600 sprint medley, Gregory was 12th as JayCee Bartling, Bailey Beck, Megan Warnke and Emma Thomas ran that event in a time of 4:36:93. Colome’s Matt Campbell was third overall in both the discuss and shot put throws yesterday. In the boys long jump, Chamberlain’s Tiegen Priebe was ninth with a leap of 20-07.25. Hallie Hallock of Platte/Geddes finished eighth in the discus.

Congratulations to the Winner Area Girls as they won the Stanley County Golf Invite in Fort Pierre on Friday! Ronae Klein was first overall, Addy Root was second, Liz Jankauskas was third and Sam Marts came in fourth. Cheyenne Dougherty won the JV Tournament, Brennan Bachmann was second and Lauren Norrid was third.

The Howard Wood Relays got underway on Friday in Sioux Falls. In the special event 200 meter dash last night, Winner’s Cameron Kuil placed third. Denzel Brown of Eden Prairie won the race in 21.36 seconds. Kuil ran it in 22.17. Legacy’s Alex Brosseau was second as he ran a 22.08. The Burke/South Central boys 4×800-meter relay team of Tyson Mayer, Vladik Johnson, Jaden Frank and Kray Person finished in second place, running a time of 8:34.72. James Valley Christian won that race in 8:30.79. In the girls class ‘B’ 4 x 800 meter relay, Lyman finished seventh. In the girls class ‘A’ 4 x 800 meter relay, the team of Chloe Bartels, Saige Schuyler, Sidda Schuyler, and Sam Schuyler finished fourth for Winner with a time of 9:54:11. Madison was first as they ran a 9:38:62. Hallie Hallock of Platte-Geddes finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 39.75. In the girls two mile run, Chamberlain’s Ella Byers finished thirteenth overall while Sidda Schuyler of Winner was 23rd. In the boys two mile run, Winner’s Izak Moleterno was 29th as he ran a 10:25:37.

The St. Francis Golf Invite was held on Thursday in Mission. Winning the team title was Red Cloud as they finished with a 422. Cheyenne/Eagle Butte was second with a 478 and Todd County came in third with a 493. Red Cloud’s Payton Sierra finished first overall as she shot an 80, Paisley Sierra of Red Cloud was second as she carded a 98. Todd County’s Carli Olson finished third by shooting a 111. Kaycie Marshall was the top golfer for St. Francis as she shot a 129 on Thursday.

The race will get underway at 8pm at Howard Wood Field. Kuil will be running in lane five.
