Day two of the South Dakota Class ‘A’ Legion Baseball Tournament is in the books from Watertown. Yesterday, Brookings beat Aberdeen, 14-1. Brandon Valley got past Pierre, 8-4. Last night, Rapid City Post 320 edged Sioux Falls East, 4-3, and Watertown defeated Rapid City Post 22, 7-2. Today at 2:30, Sioux Falls East will play Brandon Valley, Rapid City Post 22 will battle Brookings at 5 while Watertown takes on Rapid City Post 320 at around 7:30. The Sunshine League Amateur Baseball postseason tournament got underway in Parkston last night. In game one, Alexandria shutout the Parkston Bullheads 11-0 in seven innings. In game two, Winner/Colome shutout Platte in seven innings by a final score of 10-0.  JJ Farner was the winning pitcher for the Pheasants. Richard Sternberg collected all of the hits in the game for the Killer Tomatoes.

The South Dakota Class ‘A’ and Class ‘B’ Junior Teener State Baseball Tournaments will get underway tomorrow! In Dell Rapids, the Class ‘A’ Tournament will be held through Sunday. Tomorrow at noon, West Central will play Custer. In game two, Madison will take on Dakota Valley. At 5:30, Tea will play Wagner followed by Warner-Ipswich-Northville battling Dell Rapids. In Platte, the Class ‘B’ Tournament will get underway at noon tomorrow. Gregory will play Selby followed by Baltic against Webster. At around 5:30, Garretson will play Onida followed by Platte/Geddes against Clear Lake.

Rapid City Post 320 grabbed a win over Brookings, 6-2 and Watertown beat Pierre, 8-1 last night. In teener baseball last night, Wagner beat Gregory, 14-4.

The Winner FFA will be hosting a run for a reason on July 30th! There will be a full and a half marathon, along with a 10k and 5k run. There will be five age divisions. To all students who would like to participate, if you can find a few local businesses to sponsor you $5 for every mile you run or walk, all of the proceeds will go to the Connot Family. We had a girls 18 and under softball tournament that took place on Monday in Winner. Parkston scored a win over Burke, 6-4, and they also beat Clearfield, 13-7. Parkston went on to beat Winner twice, 5-2 and 5-3.. Burke was able to defeat Winner, 10-9. Clearfield beat Winner, 12-5. In Teener Baseball Monday night, Plankinton beat Chamberlain, 9-4. The Winner teeners had their game with Gregory moved up to last night. Winner was victorious, 14-2.

A few big golf tournaments are coming up in our area this weekend! Friday, the Play in Platte two man scramble will be held at the Lake Platte Golf Course. To signup a team call 337-3300. Saturday, the Stan Jacobsen Memorial four man scramble will be held in Ainsworth. To get signed up call 402-387-1658.
