Tennessee and Syracuse win in Sioux Falls Friday

Women’s Sweet 16 College Basketball took place at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls on Friday night. In game one, Syracuse was able to upset number one seeded South Carolina, 80-72. In game two, Tennessee upset three seeded Ohio State, 78-62. The Lady Volunteers will play the Lady Orange in Sioux Falls tomorrow at 2:30 central for the right to play in the Final Four.

Lady Coyotes win by one!

The USD Lady Coyotes were able to take down Northern Iowa last night at the Dakota Dome, 51-50 in a third round NIT contest. The Lady Coyotes were able to lock down defensively in the closing seconds to come away with the win. USD shot just 33 percent from the field and 7 percent from beyond three. The Lady Coyotes advance to play on Sunday night at home against the winner of today’s Western Kentucky vs St. Louis game at 7pm.

Season Finale of Coaches Corner is tomorrow

Our season finale of ‘Coaches Corner’ will take place tomorrow morning on Country 1260 starting at 9am. Doski will visit with Coach Gardner, Coach Nelson and Coach Marshall recapping state basketball from last weekend along with many of our area spring sports coaches too! Tune in tomorrow morning, and tell your friends we will be streaming the program online too.

USD set to take on Northern Iowa tonight in NIT play

The University of South Dakota Lady Coyotes are ready to take on Northern Iowa tonight in the third round of the Women’s NIT. USD is coming off a 101-89 win on Sunday in Minnesota. Kelly Stewart tied a career-high with 19 points while Nicole Seekamp (Summit League Player of the Year) scored 18 in the victory. The winner of tonight’s game at the Dakota Dome will advance to the quarterfinals. Tipoff tonight is at 7pm in Vermillion.

Our season finale of Coaches Corner will take place this Saturday, March 26th starting at 9am on Country 1260. We will talk to Eldon Marshall, Adam Nelson and Brett Gardner recapping state boys basketball along with some of our area spring coaches too! We will also be streaming the program online.

Twins split squad goes 2-0 Tuesday

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) – Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff threw four innings in a 7-5 loss to a Minnesota Twins’ split squad on Tuesday. Eickhoff entered spring training behind schedule after sustaining a small fracture in his right thumb last month during a bunting drill. He allowed three runs and four hits, struck out seven and walked two.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) – Joe Mauer hit a two-run drive that sent a split squad of Minnesota Twins past the Baltimore Orioles 5-1 Tuesday. Mauer connected in the first inning for an opposite-field shot to left. Trevor Plouffe added a two-run homer in the fifth for the Twins. Caleb Joseph had two of the Orioles’ four hits.

WGPC All-Conference Team revealed

The Western Great Plains All-Conference Boys Basketball Team was released yesterday. Locally, making first team all-conference were Justice Morrison, Dru Espinoza and Nicholas Young all of White River. Making second team all-conference was Lyman’s Kalvin Peterson, along with Russell Leader Charge of White River. Gunner Piper and Lucas Iron Heart of White River were named to third team all-conference.
