Reminders for today

Kimball High School will be holding a blood drive today from 11am-4:30pm at the School. To make an appointment call 778-6231. The Lyman School Board will meet tonight at 7pm at their regular location in Presho. The Brule County Democrats will hold a fun night tonight at the Chamberlain Country Club beginning at 6pm with a social hour. The Burke City Council will meet tonight at 7pm in the municipal meeting room in Burke.

Hunters breakfasts coming up this weekend!

An annual hunters breakfast will be held this Saturday, October 15th and on Sunday, October 16th from 7-11am at the Tripp County Fairgrounds. Stop by and enjoy pancakes, ham, and eggs! The breakfast is sponsored by the Mid Dakota Fair board. Proceeds will go to the Mid Dakota Fair and Tripp County 4-H programs. There will also be a hunters breakfast this Saturday at the Platte Community Center from 7:30-10:30am. A free will offering will be taken and all of the proceeds will go towards the 2017 post prom party. The event is sponsored by the 2017 post prom committee. There will be a hunters pancake feed happening on Sunday, October 16th from 7am-noon at the Burke VFW Post Home. Proceeds will go toward various legion projects throughout the year.

Weekend reminders

The Burke Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department will hold an open house this Sunday from 10am-4pm. The open house will take place at the Fire Hall in Burke. There will be a hunter safety course happening in Burke this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the Civic Center. The course is open to boys and girls that are twelve years old. The South Central RC&D will have their annual meeting take place on Saturday at the Parmalee Fire Hall. Registration begins at 4. The Kool Water Band will take the stage this Saturday night at Carlock Dance Hall! They will play from 8 to midnight. Showing Saturday and Sunday nights at the Hipp Theatre in Gregory will be the movie “The Magnificent 7”. Shows will begin at 7:30 both nights.

Reception for Judge Trandahl to happen today

There will be a reception in honor of Judge Kathleen Trandahl that will take place from 2-4pm this afternoon at the main courtroom of the Tripp County Courthouse. There will also be food and refreshments from 6-8pm tonight at the Holiday Inn Express in Winner. Everyone is welcome to attend and congratulate Judge Trandahl on her 22 years of service!

Rank appointed by Governor Daugaard!

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed state Education Department attorney Bobbi Rank to a state circuit court judgeship.

Rank will move from Pierre to Winner and succeed Sixth Circuit Judge Kathleen Trandahl, who is retiring this week. Rank grew up on her family’s ranch near Winner and graduated from high school in the town.

The Sixth Circuit includes the counties of Bennett, Gregory, Haakon, Hughes, Hyde, Jackson, Jones, Lyman, Mellette, Potter, Stanley, Sully, Todd and Tripp.

Old West Days get underway today!

Old West Days will get underway in the heart city of Valentine, Nebraska today as they will celebrate 25 years for the event! This evening from 5 to 7pm there will be a kickoff barbecue and entertainment happening at the Cherry County Fairgrounds Pavilion. Baby signing time class coming up in Winner

There will be a baby signing time class every Friday from 10-10:30am at the Winner Pre-School starting October 14th. This class will be open to children ages 0-5 and their parent or caregiver. This class will teach American sign language signs in a fun and interactive way! There will be no charge for those that want to take part in the classes.

National Weather Service to hold an open house in Rapid City this weekend

The Rapid City National Weather Service will be hosting a public open house this Saturday, October 8th from 9am to Noon at their office in Rapid City at 300 East Signal Drive. Visitors will have the opportunity to see how weather forecasts and warnings are issued along with learning about historical weather events. A special weather balloon launch will be conducted at 11:30 to show weather data collected in real time.

Department of Revenue information

The South Dakota Department of Revenue will host office hours in Gregory to assist taxpayers. The office is located at the Gregory City Hall. Taxpayers may visit the remote office for assistance with completing tax returns, obtaining a sales tax license and general questions. Office hours will be from 10:30am-2:30pm on Tuesday, October 11th, November 8th and December 13th. Appointments can be made by calling 668-2939.

Harvest dinner and auction coming up on the 20th

The Springview United Methodist Church will hold its annual harvest dinner and auction on Thursday, October 20th from 5-7pm at the Springview High School Gym! They will be serving the full Thanksgiving feast and an auction will be held at 7pm with homemade treats, gift baskets, toys, plants and more! Make sure you attend this wonderful event!
