Couple of reminders on big events

Don’t forget that the Prairie Cruisers Car and Tractor Show will be held this Saturday, September 3rd at the Tripp County Historical Museum! Registration will run from 11am to 1pm. Ladies, don’t forget that Women in Ag Day is set for Tuesday, September 13th at the Burke Civic Center! Pre-registration is required for this big event. Joint screenings coming up in Burke

A joint screening for families with children ages three to five will be held next Wednesday, September 7th at the Burke Community Building. This screening is to make you aware of development milestones your child has mastered. To register in advance you can call 775-2645. The registration deadline is this Friday, September 2nd.

Veterans Day coming up in Huron

The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs along with Governor Dennis Daugaard have proclaimed this Thursday, September 1st as Veterans Day at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron! There will be a program at 10:30am at the Northwest Energy Freedom stage, “Salute to Veterans”. To show appreciation for their service, veterans and active military personnel will receive a free gate admission on Thursday.

Benefit event at the Winner Legion tonight

There will be a benefit spaghetti feed and auction for Kevin Kidwiler tonight from 5pm-8pm at the Winner American Legion. Proceeds will help defray medical expenses. If you would still like to donate items for the auction you can contact Colleen Farley at 842-5471, Tanya Harter at 840-0559 or Tracie Haley at 840-0072. Weekend reminders

Don’t forget that a free tailgate cookout will take place tonight at Don Giese Field prior to the Crow Creek vs Chamberlain football game! There will be hamburgers and hot dogs for the public to enjoy starting at 5:30. Saturday, the Rosebud Arrow, Rod and Gun Club in Winner will be hosting a bow hunter safety course from 8am-5pm at the Gun Club. Get out the dancing shoes and head to the Carlock Dance Hall on Saturday night! The band, On the Road, will be playing your favorite tunes from 7:30 to 11:30pm.

Cherry County news

Keep in mind that the Cherry County Hospital Board of Trustees will meet next Tuesday, August 30th at 7:30pm in the conference room of the hospital in Valentine next week. Also next Tuesday, the Cherry County Commissioners will be gathering for a meeting. They will meet at 10am at the regular location in the heart city of Valentine.

Fatal crash in Platte Wednesday

PLATTE, S.D. (AP) – A 10-year-old boy is dead and five other people injured in a two-vehicle crash in Douglas County.

The Highway Patrol says the boy was a passenger in a pickup truck that collided with a sport utility vehicle at a state Highway 44 intersection about 12 miles east of Platte. The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The name of the boy who died wasn’t immediately released.

The 14-year-old driver of the pickup and an 11-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries.

The three people in the SUV also suffered minor injuries. They included a 2-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy.

A few more reminders for this week

Don’t forget that the South Central RC&D will meet tomorrow. The meeting will take place at the Cherry Todd Building in Mission starting at 1:30.  Also, the 44th annual Sinte Gleska Commencement Program will be held this Friday starting at 1pm at the Sinte Gleska Wakiyan Wanbli multi-purpose building on the Antelope campus. Don’t forget that the Rosebud Arrow, Rod and Gun Club in Winner will be hosting a bow hunter safety course this Saturday from 8am-5pm at the Gun Club. Checkout the Burke Farmers Market tomorrow!

The Burke Farmers Market will re-open tomorrow on Main Street! The market will be open from 4-6pm each and every Thursday through early October. The Chamberlain Farmers Market will be back open this Saturday from 8am-noon in the parking lot of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain.
