The Todd County School District’s counseling department will be available for community outreach today and tomorrow from 6-8pm at the district office. Counselors will be available as long as needed for those needing to talk about the recent tragic loss. For further information you can call Karen at 856-3501.

The Spirit Gems will be holding a car wash fundraiser this Thursday, July 21st from 11am to 7pm at the Frosty Boy in Winner! Stop by and enjoy some Frosty Boy ice cream while the Spirit Gems wash your car! They will also be serving burgers from 11am-1pm on Thursday. All of the proceeds will go toward their upcoming performance at Disney World in December!

The Salvation Army and Shopko are teaming up on  a “Tools for Schools” program  to collect essential supplies for donation to children in need of school supplies and to also ensure local teachers and students have supplies they need for next school year. You can visit your local Shopko between now and August 12th to donate school supplies!

Don’t forget that Summer Fest will take place this Saturday, July 23rd from 6pm-11pm at the Burke Civic Center parking lot! There will be a  big cook-off, great entertainment and a live auction all set to take place on Saturday night. The event is a project fundraiser for the Burke Hospital.  If you would like to be a part of the cook-off you can contact Todd Halsne at 775-2075.

Showing this weekend at the Winner Drive-In will be the “Angry Birds Movie”. It is an animated comedy and is rated PG. Shows will start at dusk Friday through Monday. Showing at the Hilltop Drive Inn on West Highway 18 in Gregory is the movie “The Heat”, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Shows will start at dusk Friday through Sunday.

Just a reminder that the Goodwill trailer will be in the parking lot of the Platte Food Center from July 21st through July 28th. Goodwill accepts small furniture, clothing, toys, books, electronics and much more! Also, an EMT course will start in Platte this fall. The Chamberlain Farmers Market will reopen this Saturday, July 16th! The market is open each and every Saturday through October 1st. It will be open from 8am-noon at the Lutheran Church parking lot in Chamberlain. For more information you can contact Teal at 682-9377. The market is sponsored by the South Dakota Department of Agriculture.

The Winner FFA will be hosting a run for a reason on July 30th! There will be a full and a half marathon, along with a 10k and 5k run. There will be five age divisions. To all students who would like to participate, if you can find a few local businesses to sponsor you $5 for every mile you run or walk, all of the proceeds will go to the Connot Family. The Winner Volunteer Fire Department will be holding their fourth annual poker run on July 16th! Registration will happen from 11am-Noon and everyone will depart at 12:30. Food will be served from 5-6 at the Fire Department with prizes to be given away at the Pheasant Bar at 6:30. Bikes, cars and everyone are welcome!
