The Salvation Army and Shopko are teaming up on “Tools for Schools” to collect essential supplies for donation to children in need of school supplies and to ensure local teachers and students have supplies they need for next school year. You can visit your local Shopko between now and August 12th to donate school supplies!

A couple of reminders for tomorrow
Keep in mind that the Gregory County Historical Society will meet tomorrow night. The meeting will begin at 7pm in the Burke Civic Center. Also on Wednesday, the Feeding South Dakota Food Box Distribution will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Winner. Pick up time will be from 11am-12noon tomorrow.
Summer Fest set for July 23rd in Burke!
Don’t forget that Summer Fest will take place on Saturday, July 23rd from 6pm-11pm at the Burke Civic Center parking lot! There will be a big cook-off, great entertainment and a live auction all set to take place that night. The event is a project fundraiser for the Burke Hospital.
A couple of blood drives coming up
Don’t forget that a blood drive will be held in Geddes this Wednesday, July 13th from 2-6pm at the Geddes Legion Hall. The following Wednesday, July 20th, a blood drive will take place in White River from 1-5pm at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. If you would like to make an appointment for the drive in White River you can call Donna at 605-259-3372.
Project 22 to be shown in Winner on Wednesday
The Pix Theatre in Winner will be showing “Project 22” this Wednesday, July 13th at 7pm. “Project 22” is a documentary movie that focuses on brain injury and post traumatic stress that can lead to suicide. This movie can help show you how to make the right decisions to seek help. The movie is free to the public.
A list of meetings in Valentine for next week
The Valentine City Planning Commission will meet on Monday, July 11th at 7pm at the Valentine City Library meeting room. The Cherry County Board of Commissioners will meet on Tuesday, July 12th at 10am at the regular location in Valentine. The Valentine School Board will meet on Tuesday, the 12th at 6pm at the High School. The Valentine City Council will meet next Thursday, July 14th at 7pm in the meeting room of the Valentine Public Library.
Reminders for the weekend
We wanted to send some reminders your way about a few of the many things that will be going on across our area this weekend. The North Star Poker Run will be held on Saturday beginning at the North Star and ending at the Pheasant Bar in Winner. They ask that you get signed up by noon on Saturday. The Tripp County Historical Society will be hosting a homemade pie and ice cream social this Sunday from 2pm to 4:30pm. Free will offering will be taken. Colome residents are to be reminded that the Colome City Wide Garage Sale will take place on Saturday! To get on the list of the sales call Ashley at 842-3304.
Murdo Ranch Rodeo coming up!
The Murdo Ranch Rodeo and Rough Stock Challenge is set for July 15th and the 16th at the Murdo Rodeo Arena! The Rough Stock Challenge will happen on the 15th starting at 6:30pm with the Calcutta. The annual rodeo will be held on the 16th starting at 4:30 with a Calcutta. A yearling gelding will be auctioned off at the rodeo. The yearling is being donated to help defray medical costs for the Newsam family.
