The following are just some of the many services going on today in our area: Memorial Day Services will be held in Chamberlain-Oacoma at the Veterans Park beginning at 10am. Other sites visited will be at the Riverview Cemetery, the Sanford Care Center and at the Marina Bridge in Oacoma. There will be a Memorial Day Program this morning at the Winner Cemetery starting at 11am. A Memorial Day Program will be held at the Gregory Auditorium today starting at 11am. There will be a Memorial Day Program at 10am this morning in Burke at the School Auditorium. The Valentine Memorial Day Service will start at 10am this morning at the Mount Hope Cemetery.

Chamberlain Farmers Market to open soon
It is that time of the year where many area farmers markets are getting set to open for the summer and fall across the state of South Dakota. Keep in mind that the Chamberlain Farmers Market will be open June 4th through October 1st. The market will be located at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday’s from 8am-12noon.
Gregory County reminders
The Gregory County 4-H would like to start a Lego Club this summer! If you would like to donate any Legos, please contact the 4-H Office in Burke at 775-2581, or you can just drop them off at the office. Also the annual German Festival will be held in Gregory on Saturday, June 11th! Be sure to make plans to stop on by for great German food, music, dancing, beer, brats and bands!
Sandhills Cattle Association to hold annual convention June 8th
The 77th annual Sandhills Cattle Association Convention will be held on Wednesday, June 8th at the Cherry County Fairgrounds in Valentine, Nebraska! An annual membership meeting will take place during the convention along with educational speakers talking to the public as well. A kids zone will be on site for the kids to play in too. In addition for those attending, you will also get to enjoy a pen of three heifer show at the annual convention.
Community Health Fair coming up June 3rd in Winner
A free community health fair will take place next Friday, June 3rd from 7:30am-1:30pm at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center. A free community breakfast will be held for the community from 6:30-9:30am, free and reduced cost health screenings will be offered along with Sanford heart screenings and vascular screenings by appointment.
Reminders for Wednesday
Keep in mind that Book Buddies story time will be held this morning at the Gregory Public Library! Story time will get underway at 10:30. Also, don’t forget that the Colome Consolidated School District will hold a special school board meeting this afternoon at 1pm at the Superintendent’s Office/Conference Room. Keep in mind also tonight, the Burke Music Boosters will meet at the Civic Center in Burke at 6:30.
Tractor safety training coming up in Valentine
We want to remind you about tractor safety training courses that will take place in Valentine on June 2nd and the 3rd. The courses will be held at the Cherry County Extension Fairgrounds. These courses are open to youth ages 14 and 15 and registration is required in advanced. If you want more information or to register you can call the Nebraska Extension Office in Valentine at 402-376-1850.
Blood Drive set for Wednesday and Thursday in Winner
There will be a two day blood drive in Winner this week at the Winner American Legion. On Wednesday, May 25th, the blood drive will get underway at 10:30am and run until 4:30pm. On Thursday, May 26th, the blood drive will run from 7am-noon. The blood drive is being sponsored by the Southern Belle Cattlewomen. If you would like to make an appointment in advanced you can call Ruth Anne at 879-2497.
Public Hearing to happen in Rosebud Friday
A reminder that Rosebud Sioux Tribe Child Care Services public hearing will be held this Friday, May 30th from 10am-2pm at the RST Child Care Services Office in the brown building south of the Allstop on Rosebud. Several topics will be discussed on Friday and lunch will be provided at noon.
Avenue of Flags looking for help for Memorial Day in Winner
The Avenue of Flags needs your help on Memorial Day weekend to display the flags at the Winner Cemetery. This Sunday, May 29th, please come at 4pm to place the flag poles by the holes, and then on Monday, May 30th starting at 6am the flags will be placed in the holes followed by rolls, coffee and juice at the Legion for the workers. At 4pm, more help will be needed to remove, fold and store the flags and the poles. Please meet at the west entrance to the cemetery.
