The 2022 General Election took place in South Dakota yesterday.
In Tripp County, Republican Mike Novotny defeated Independent Steve Novotny for District 3 County Commissioner with 65% of the votes. Republican Michelle Lovejoy defeated Independent Kristin Assman for Register of Deeds with 53% of the votes.
In Gregory County, Republican Timothy D. Drey defeated Independent Ryan Cook for County Sheriff with 58% of the votes. Republican Byrain L. Boes defeated Independent Julie R. Yager, and Independent Kyle Wilhelmsen for District 3 County Commissioner with 52% of the votes. Republican Jeffrey G. Johnson defeated Democrat Byron Grim for District 5 Commissioner with 58% of the votes.
In Todd County, Independent Marshal Tinant defeated Republican Richard “Dean” Stiefel for District 1 Commissioner with 62 percent of the votes. Democrat Trent Poignee Sr. defeated Republican Dave Assman for District 3 Commissioner with 87% of the votes.
In Mellette County, Independent Cecil Brandis Jr. defeated Republican Robert E. Bouman for District 2 County Commissioner with 53% of the votes.
In Lyman County, Republican Kalli Houchin defeated Independent Steve Gabriel for County Auditor with 59% of the votes. Republican Steve Manger defeated Independent Tim Feliciano for County Sheriff with 84% of the votes. Republican Beau Johnson, Republican Ryan Huffman and Republican Zane Reis defeated Democrat Benny Janis, Democrat Stephanie Bolman, and Independent Jared Schelske for three County Commissioner positions.
In Jones County, Independent Kerri Venard defeated Republican Jacob T. Lolley and Independent Rick Stotts for County Auditor with 69% of the votes.
In Brule County, Republican Sharman Swanson defeated Independent James Nesladek and Independent Jacob Palmer with 48% of the votes for District 1 Commissioner.
Republican Erin Tobin defeated Democrat Dan Anderson for State Senator, District 21.
Republican Rocky Blare and Republican Marty Overweg were elected for two open positions for State Representative, District 21.
Democrat Shawn Bordeaux defeated Republican Joel Koskan for State Senator, District 26 with 58% of the votes.
Democrat Eric Emery defeated Republican Joyce Glynn for State Representative, District 26A with 67% of the votes.
Republican Rebecca Reimer was elected unopposed for State Representative, District 26B.
Democrat Brian L. Bengs and Libertarian Tamara J. Lesnar were defeated by Republican John R. Thune for United States Senator.
Republican Dusty Johnson defeated Libertarian Collin Duprel for United States Representative.
Republicans Kristi Noem and Larry Rhoden defeated Democrats Jamie Smith and Jennifer Keint and Libertarians Tracey Quint and Ashley Strand For Governor and Lt. Governor respectively.
Republican Monae Johnson defeated Democrat Thomas A. Cool for Secretary of State.
Republican Marty J. Jackley was elected Attorney General unopposed.
Republican Richard Sattgast defeated Democrat Stephanie Marty and Libertarian Rene Meyer for State Auditor.
Republican Josh Haeder defeated Democrat John Cunningham for State Treasurer.
Republican Brock Greenfield defeated Democrat Timothy Azure for Commissioner of Schools and Public Lands.
Republican Chris Nelson defeated Democrat Jeffrey Barth for Public Utilities Commissioner.
Voters also voted “Yes“ or “No” on Constitutional Amendment D which would expand Medicaid eligibility. This amendment passed.
Finally on the ballot was Initiated Measure 27 where voters voted “Yes” or “No” on legalizing the possession, use, and distribution of Marijuana. This initiated measure did not pass.
