Couple of reminders for the week

Don’t forget that the Bowling Dome in Chamberlain will hold a men’s league meeting this week. That meeting will happen on Thursday, August 18th starting at 8pm. This Saturday, August 20th, there will be a Club Handicap and Scratch Golf Tournament that will happen at the Gregory Golf Course with a 1pm start time. It will be an eighteen hole tournament this weekend. It is being sponsored by Bankwest and Buche Foods.

Benefit feed and auction set for August 29th in Winner

There will be a benefit spaghetti feed and auction for Kevin Kidwiler on Monday, August 29th from 5-8pm at the Winner American Legion. Proceeds will help defray medical expenses. If you would like to donate items for the auction you can contact Colleen Farley at 842-5471, Tanya Harter at 840-0559 or Tracie Haley at 840-0072. An account has also been setup at First Fidelity Bank for the Kidwiler family. Donations can be sent to First Fidelity Bank, PO Box 111, Winner, SD 57580.

Firearm course coming up in Valentine

There will be a free firearm hunter safety education course that will take place this Saturday, August 20th from 8am-1pm, and on Sunday, August 21st from Noon to 5pm at the Niobrara Lodge in Valentine at 803 E. Fundraising dodgeball tournament coming up

There will be a dodgeball fundraiser tournament that will take place on Saturday, September 3rd starting at 5:30 at the Winner Middle School. Up to six people will be allowed on each team and the tournament is open to anyone interested in playing. There is a sixty dollar entry fee. All of the proceeds will go to Kelly Kidwiler and his family as his dad, Kevin, battles cancer. To sign up or for more information you can call Tawny at 840-2140 or Kelsey at 208-1041.

Alexandria crowned state champs

The Alexandria Angels won the Class ‘B’ State Amateur Baseball Tournament yesterday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell as they defeated Garretson, 7-1. The Angels never trailed and received good pitching on the mound from Tyson Gau, who went the distance and struck out five. Gau was named the tournament’s most valuable player as he did damage both on the mound and at the plate.

Reminders for today

The fourth annual Platte-Geddes FFA Barnyard Olympics will take place tonight at the Platte Livestock Auction beginning at 7pm! Stop on by for the annual event as a hamburger and hot dog supper will be served! Also, there will be a blood drive in Kimball from Noon-5:30 at the Catholic Church. Middle School orientation set for this week

Winner Middle School orientation for students entering grades 6-8 will be held this Thursday, August 18th starting at 6pm at the Winner Armory. Students will receive schedules and other information during the meeting. Students and parents will also be able to visit classrooms and check out lockers. Any questions call the office at 842-8125.

Scores from Friday

The quarterfinal round of the State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament wrapped up last night at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. In game one, Crofton shutout Colman, 8-0. In game two, Alexandria was able to defeat Plankinton, 6-3. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Angels scored four times to take the lead and never look back. Alexandria will play Crofton tonight at 7:30.

Movies at the Drive-In Theatres!

Showing at the Winner Drive-In Theatre Friday through Monday will be the movie “Star Trek Beyond”. It is rated PG-13 and the movie will start at dusk .Remember that bargain night is Monday night in Winner. Star Trek Beyond will also be showing at the Hilltop Drive Inn on West Highway 18 in Gregory Friday through Sunday. The movie will also begin at dusk in Gregory.
