Weekend events in Chamberlain

Don’t forget the Chamberlain Cub Scouts will host a youth fishing day this Saturday, August 13th from 9 to 11am at the American Creek Marina in Chamberlain! Also on Saturday, the Chamberlain Booster Club will hold the Cub Scramble at the Chamberlain Country Club. Shotgun start is at 11am. Keep in mind the Chamberlain Farmers Market will re-open tomorrow from 8am-Noon in the parking lot of the Trinity Lutheran Church. The market will be open each Saturday through early October.

The Dell Rapids Mudcats and Garretson Blue Jays were victorious last night at the State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell. Dell Rapids defeated the Parkston Mudcats in game one, 5-2. Game two was won in come from behind fashion as Garretson scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Winner/Colome, 5-4. Geno Katz drove in two runs for the Pheasants.  Dell Rapids will play Garretson in the semi-final round on Saturday at 1pm at Cadwell Park.

Pheasants ready to battle the Blue Jays at Cadwell Park

The Winner/Colome Pheasants will take on the Garretson Blue Jays tonight in the quarterfinal round of the State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. Coverage will start at around 8pm on 93.7FM. The Pheasants took down Northville back on Friday in their first round game, 18-1. Winner/Colome did not allow a hit in that victory as Austin Richey, Geno Katz and Ryan Richey had three hits apiece. The Pheasants then went on to beat Four Corners Monday, 14-2. Winner/Colome stormed out of the gates as they scored seven times in the first inning and never looked back. The Blue Jays grabbed a win seven days ago in the first round over Irene, 3-2. Garretson scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning. Dan Smith, Dustin Steckler and Nolan Luhmann had three hits in the win. The Blue Jays then went on to defeat Dell Rapids PBR on Monday, 7-1. Garretson’s offense erupted for five runs in the third inning to create some breathing room. Steckler was the winning pitcher on Monday.

Donate school supplies at Shopko!

The Salvation Army and Shopko have teamed up on the “Tools for Schools” program to collect essential supplies for donation to children in need of school supplies, and to ensure local teachers and students have supplies they need for the upcoming school year.  Be sure to visit Shopko before the end of tomorrow to donate school supplies!

Middle School Orientation coming up in Winner

Winner Middle School orientation for students entering grades six through eight will be held next Thursday, August 18th starting at 6pm at the Winner Armory. Students will receive schedules and other information during the meeting. Students and parents will also be able to visit classrooms and checkout lockers. If you have questions you can call the office at 842-8125.

Amateur Baseball from Wednesday

The Alexandria Angels and the Plankinton F&M Bankers were victorious last night at the State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell at Cadwell Park. The Angels took down Freeman, 9-2 in game one.  Both teams were scoreless for the first four innings before Alexandria put up a five spot in the fifth. Plankinton was able to hold off Groton last night, 6-5. A four run fourth inning was the difference in the game. The Bankers and the Angels will play one another tomorrow night at around 8pm for the right to advance to the semi-final round.

Scores from Tuesday

Two more games took place at Cadwell Park in Mitchell last night for the State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament. In game one, Colman defeated Kimball/White Lake, 5-3.  After trailing 3-1, the A’s scored twice in both the fifth and sixth innings. Game two went to Crofton as they beat Mt. Vernon, 9-6. Down 6-1 in the seventh inning, the Blue Jays scored eight times to take the lead for good.
