Chamberlain reminders

Keep in mind that the Chamberlain Cub Scouts will be hosting a youth fishing day this weekend! The fishing day will take place on Saturday, August 13th from 9 to 11am at the American Creek Marina in Chamberlain. Coming up on Saturday, August 20th, the American Island Days Color Run will be held at the American Creek Marina parking lot. Registrations can be found at chamberlainsd.net, or at the Chamberlain Community Center.

Be sure to checkout the Chamberlain and Burke Farmers markets this week!

The Burke Farmers Market will re-open tomorrow on Main Street! The market will be open from 4-6pm each and every Thursday through early October. The Chamberlain Farmers Market will be back open this Saturday from 8am-noon in the parking lot of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chamberlain. The market is open through October 1st each and every Saturday. For more information you can call Teal at 605-682-9377. The market is sponsored by the South Dakota Department of Agriculture.

Kimball/White Lake ready to battle Colman tonight

The State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament will continue with two games tonight at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. Game one will see Kimball/White Lake take on Colman at 6pm. Game two will follow as Mt. Vernon plays Crofton, Nebraska. Kimball/White Lake took down the Milbank Firechiefs in the first round back on Friday, 15-3.  The Nationals scored seven times in the fourth inning to open things up. Anthony Williams had three hits to lead Kimball/White Lake. Brian Zeman earned the win on the mound as he went eight innings and struck out three. The Colman A’s took down the Clark Traders in their first round game on Friday, 5-2. Rob Lind and Billy Stitz led Colman with two hits apiece. Deon Entringer went all nine innings on the mound and he struck out ten.

Courses coming up in Valentine

There will be a free firearm hunter safety education course that will take place on Saturday, August 20th from 8am-1pm, and on Sunday, August 21st from Noon to 5pm at the Niobrara Lodge in Valentine at 803 E. Applications being accepted for Rosebud dorms

Applications for enrollment into the Rosebud dorm for the 2016-2017 school year can be picked up at the Rosebud dorm in Mission. Applications can be picked up on a daily basis Monday through Thursday from 8am-5pm, and on Friday from 8am-Noon. Registration for the school year will be held on August 9th, 10th and the 11th this week. If you want more information you can call 605-856-4486.

Scores from Monday at Cadwell Park

Two more games took place last night at Cadwell Park in Mitchell for the State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament. In game one, the Garretson Blue Jays took down Dell Rapids PBR, 7-1. A five run third inning opened up the game for Garretson. In game two, the Winner/Colome Pheasants took down Four Corners,  14-2. Winner/Colome came out swinging from the start as they scored seven times in the first inning and never looked back. Winner/Colome advances to play on Thursday night against Garretson at around 8pm.

Orientation coming up in Winner

Winner Middle School orientation for students entering grades 6-8 will be held on Thursday, August 18th starting at 6pm at the Winner Armory. Students will receive schedules and other information during the meeting. Students and parents will also be able to visit classrooms and check out lockers. Any questions call the office at 842-8125.

Reminders for the week

The Presho Chamber of Commerce will meet on Thursday, August 11th at Hutch’s Cafe in Presho starting at noon.The Valentine City Council will meet on Thursday, August 11th starting at 7pm in the meeting room of the Valentine Public Library. Effective this Friday, August 12th, the Gregory County Veteran Service Office will be open every Friday from 8am-Noon and from 1-5 and will not be open on Monday’s.
