State Legion Baseball action in Ainsworth

Day two of the state legion baseball tournament took place in Ainsworth yesterday. West Point beat Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley, 2-1 in an elimination game. Game two went to Alma as they eliminated Ainsworth, 2-1. In game three, Albion beat Creighton 3-2 on a walk-off hit. Game four went to Malcolm, as they beat Yutan, 6-5 in eight innings.

Twins Talk returns tomorrow

Chris Doski and a local Minnesota Twins fan will discuss all things that deal with the Twins organization tomorrow on another edition of ‘Twins Talk’! They will talk about the moves that have been made prior to the trade deadline and expectations for the rest of the Major League Baseball season. The program will air at around 3:45 tomorrow on Country 1260, and at around 7:10pm on 93.7FM!

Pheasants to battle Northville on Friday at the State 'B' Amateur Tournament

The Winner/Colome Pheasants will take on Northville in the first round of the State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament at Cadwell Park in Mitchell on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 11am central. The winner of that game will advance to play on Monday, August 8th against the winner of the Tabor vs Four Corners game at 8pm. Winner/Colome finished as the runners up in the Sunshine League Tournament after falling to Alexandria on Friday, 10-9. We want to wish Coach Kevin Graesser and the entire team best of luck in the State ‘B’ Tournament!

Reminders for this week

The Burke City Council will be meeting tonight at 6:30pm in the municipal meeting room in Burke. The Presho City Council will gather tonight at their regular location in Presho. Charles Mix County 4-H Achievement Days will get underway tomorrow! Achievement Days will  run through the weekend in Lake Andes!

Couple of blood drives coming up in our area

Keep in mind that a blood drive will be held this Thursday, August 4th in White Lake. That drive will take place at the White Lake American Legion from 3-6pm. Also, a blood drive will happen in Burke on Wednesday, August 24th from noon-6pm at the Burke Civic Center. To make an appointment you can call Kim at 605-775-2621.

Winner Teeners are state bound!!

The Winner Teener Baseball team will be  headed to the  State ‘A’ Baseball Tournament after winning the Region 7A tournament at Leahy Bowl on Saturday! Winner was victorious over Wagner, 8-1. Ty Bolton was the winning pitcher as he went the distance on the mound and  struck out twelve.  Wagner was able to advance to the matchup with Winner by beating Redfield in game one yesterday, 14-3. Stay tuned to kwyr.com for the releasing of the State ‘A’ pairings! The tournament will be held in Lennox, August 5th through the 7th.

The Region 7A Teener Baseball Tournament will continue in Winner today at Leahy Bowl for day two. Yesterday, Winner beat Mission in game one, 13-1 in five innings. Game two went to Redfield, who defeated Wagner, 10-5. Wagner pulled away from Mission in game three, 6-4 in an elimination game. Game four went to Winner as they took down Redfield, 7-0. Today at 1pm, Redfield will play Wagner in an elimination game. Winner will play the winner of game one at around 3:30. If Winner is victorious they will be crowned region champions. The Alexandria Angels won the District 5B Amateur Baseball Championship game in Parkston as they edged Winner/Colome, 10-9. Both teams advance to state tournament, which starts Wednesday at Cadwell Park. The pairings will be released tomorrow. The Winner Area Chamber of Commerce held their annual tournament at the Winner Country Club last night. The team of Rusty Arthur and Lisa Halverson won the tournament.

Movies at the drive-in theatres this weekend

Showing tonight through Sunday at the Hilltop Drive Inn in Gregory is the blast from the past comedy “Porky’s Two”. The movie is rated R.  The movie will begin at dusk each of the three nights. Showing at the Winner Drive-In this weekend will be the summer smash sci-fi comedy hit “Ghostbusters”. Shows will happen Friday through Monday and will start at dusk.

Run for a Reason set for Saturday in Winner

The Winner FFA will be hosting a run for a reason this Saturday, July 30th! There will be a full and a half marathon, along with a 10k and 5k run. There will be five age divisions. To all students who would like to participate, if you can find a few local businesses to sponsor you $5 for every mile you run or walk, all of the proceeds will go to the Connot Family.
