Youth Outdoor Day coming up!

Winner will host a youth outdoor day on August 20th at the Rosebud Arrow,Rod & Gun Club from 9am-noon. Gates will open at 8:30am for check-in. There will be archery, shotgun, air pistol and rifle, muzzle loader, .22 rifle casting, slingshots, bb gun, coyote, turkey and goose calling at the event. There will be a mock pheasant hunt too! Pre-registration is required to the Winner Chamber of Commerce office by August 15th for kids ages 5-16. Xtreme Sport Shooter Patrick Flanigan will be at the Gun Club on the 20th from 1-2pm! Applications can be picked up at the Winner Area Chamber of Commerce, Bankwest and at Farmers Union Insurance.

State 'A' Legion Tournament gets underway tomorrow

The Class ‘A’ South Dakota Legion Baseball Tournament will get underway tomorrow at Watertown Stadium! In game one at 10am, Aberdeen Post #24 will play Sioux Falls East Post #15. In game two, Brandon Valley Post#131 will play Rapid City Post #22. In game three at 5pm, Rapid City Post #320 will take on Brookings Post #74 . In game four, Pierre Post #8 will play Watertown Post #17.

Scores from Monday

We had a girls 18 and under softball tournament that took place on Monday in Winner. Parkston scored a win over Burke, 6-4, and they also beat Clearfield, 13-7. Parkston went on to beat Winner twice, 5-2 and 5-3.. Burke was able to defeat Winner, 10-9. Clearfield beat Winner, 12-5. In Teener Baseball Monday night, Plankinton beat Chamberlain, 9-4. The Winner teeners had their game with Gregory moved up to last night. Winner was victorious, 14-2.

Community Outreach in Mission today

The Todd County School District’s counseling department will be available for community outreach today and tomorrow from 6-8pm at the district office. Counselors will be available as long as needed for those needing to talk about the recent tragic loss. For further information you can call Karen at 856-3501.

Spirit Gems to hold a car wash on Thursday

The Spirit Gems will be holding a car wash fundraiser this Thursday, July 21st from 11am to 7pm at the Frosty Boy in Winner! Stop by and enjoy some Frosty Boy ice cream while the Spirit Gems wash your car! They will also be serving burgers from 11am-1pm on Thursday. All of the proceeds will go toward their upcoming performance at Disney World in December!

Busy weekend of golf ahead!

A few big golf tournaments are coming up in our area this weekend! Friday, the Play in Platte two man scramble will be held at the Lake Platte Golf Course. To signup a team call 337-3300. Saturday, the Stan Jacobsen Memorial four man scramble will be held in Ainsworth. To get signed up call 402-387-1658. Also on Saturday, a two lady best ball tournament will happen at the Winner Country Club. Call 842-0686 to signup.

Shopko and Salvation Army teaming up!

The Salvation Army and Shopko are teaming up on  a “Tools for Schools” program  to collect essential supplies for donation to children in need of school supplies and to also ensure local teachers and students have supplies they need for next school year. You can visit your local Shopko between now and August 12th to donate school supplies!

Summer Fest set for this weekend!

Don’t forget that Summer Fest will take place this Saturday, July 23rd from 6pm-11pm at the Burke Civic Center parking lot! There will be a  big cook-off, great entertainment and a live auction all set to take place on Saturday night. The event is a project fundraiser for the Burke Hospital.  If you would like to be a part of the cook-off you can contact Todd Halsne at 775-2075.
