Sunshine Amateur League to remain the same for this summer

The Sunshine Amateur Baseball League, which features our Winner/Colome Pheasants, is set in stone for the upcoming 2016 baseball season. League President Dave Roth said earlier this week that there will be no additions or subtractions to the league, which hasn’t happened in more than five years. The Sunshine League is one of, if not the toughest league in South Dakota. The two teams who played for the Class B State Championship a season ago- the Parkston Mudcats and the Alexandria Angels are both in the league.  Best of luck to Winner/Colome in the upcoming season and remember to stay tuned to kwyr.com for the releae of their amateur schedule in a matter of weeks!

Twins walk-off with another victory!

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Miguel Sano singled in a run with one out in the ninth inning, giving the Minnesota Twins a 6-5, walk-off win over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.

Minnesota rallied after Mike Napoli homered off Kevin Jepsen (2-3) in the top of the ninth to tie the game 5-5. It was Jepsen’s third blown save in five chances.

The Twins came back against closer Cody Allen (0-2). Minnesota’s Brian Dozier doubled with one out in the ninth and intentionally walked Joe Mauer. Sano followed with a line drive to center field to score Dozier.

Minnesota is now 6-4 at Target Field and 1-10 on the road.

Twins starter Ricky Nolasco allowed four runs on five hits and struck out nine over 7 1/3 innings.

Stiehl moving on to National Fishing Championship after a solid weekend!

On April 20th, the B.A.S.S. Nation Regional Championship was held on Lake Guntersville in Alabama. South Dakota is part of the Central Division, which is comprised of 19 states. Each state qualified 10 boaters and 10 non-boaters and 2 alternates. Local members from the Borderline Bassmasters who qualified for the tournament were Mel Williams, Troy Lantz, Shane Stiehl and Derald Bachmann. 380 anglers fished on April 20th and the 21st. The field was then cut down to the top 38 overall and the top three boaters and non boaters from each state, which then moved on to fish on Friday. Brett Logue (boater) from the Tyndall SD Club and Shane Stiehl (non-boater) were crowned South Dakota champions and will move on to the National Championship to compete for three spots in the 2017 Bassmaster Classic. The date and location for the Championship will not be announced until sometime in May.
