Beginning in the 2017-2018 basketball season, Class ‘B’ Schools in the South Dakota will start using a 35 second shot clock. The South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors passed the motion at its regular April meeting on Tuesday in Pierre. The proposal passed the Basketball Advisory Committee with a 7-0 vote and was approved by Class B athletic directors with a 41-28 vote at the South Dakota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association annual meeting earlier this month.

Kindergarten screenings set for tomorrow
Just a reminder that Winner Elementary School will be holding kindergarten screenings tomorrow. Screenings are for any child that will be schools age for the 2016-2017 school year, and five by September 1st. If you would still like to schedule an appointment you can call the Elementary School Office at 842-8170.
Winding down our area proms
The prom season is almost over in Central South Dakota. Two area schools will celebrate prom this Saturday, April 23rd- Burke and Keya Paha County Schools. Our final area prom date is next Saturday, April 30th as Winner students will celebrate. We hope all of you students that will be attending prom make lasting memories and have a fun and safe prom!

Summer Baseball signups to be held in Winner this evening
Signups for the summer baseball teams that play at Leahy Bowl will be held from 5:15-6:00 PM this evening at the Winner American Legion. This includes the Winner Junior Teeners (13-14’s), Winner Varsity Teeners (15-16’s), and Winner/Colome Legion (17-18’s). These teams are open to baseball players that turn 13 before May 1st of this year and to those that were still 18 as of January 1st 2015. Games will begin the first week of June and run through at least mid-July. The Baseball Association encourages parents of any first year players that are not already playing club baseball to attend the signup. If you have questions, call John Calhoon at 842-1645.
A couple of weekend reminders
Don’t forget that the Greater Lyman Spring Fundraiser will be held this Friday, April 22nd at the Oacoma Community Center. A meal will be served at 6pm. Also, the “Festival of Tables” will be held this Saturday, April 23rd at the Dakota Christian School. Doors will open at 5pm, and a meal will be served at 7pm.
Blood drives coming up next week
There will be a blood drive in Butte, Nebraska on Tuesday, April 26th from 2:45-5:30 at the Butte Community Center. To make an appointment call Phyllis at 402-832-5777. A blood drive will be held next Wednesday, April 27th at the Burke Civic Center from 11:30am-5:45pm. The drive is sponsored by the Methodist Women’s Group. Golf and Baseball from Tuesday
Boys and Girls Golf took place in Mitchell on Tuesday as Mount Vernon/Plankinton held an invitational. On the boys side, there was a two way tie atop the team standings as Platte/Geddes and Bon Homme finished with 265 apiece. Gregory was third in the team standings with a 269 while Kimball/White Lake was fourth with a 280. Individually, Bon Homme’s Alec Johnson finished atop the leaderboard as he shot a 73. Platte-Geddes’ Colten Plooster finished third as he carded an 82 while Gregory’s Jon Bakke was tied for fourth with an 84. On the girls side, Burke/South Central won the team title as they finished with a 286. Mount Vernon/Plankinton was second with a 301. Individually, Scotland’s Maggie Fiscel finished atop the leaderboard as she shot an 80, Burke/South Central’s Taylee Indahl was second with an 83 while Tressa Bull of Burke/South Central was fifth with a 95. In Club Baseball at Leahy Bowl last night, Winner/Colome defeated Chamberlain/Lyman in three innings, 18-1.
