Rhoden wins republican nomination for South Dakota Governor
Tuesday was election day in South Dakota. In the Republican runoff race for South Dakota Governor, Larry Rhoden defeated Toby Doeden. Rhoden received just over 70 percent of votes, as he received a total of 83,582 votes, while Doeden received 34,430 votes. Rhoden will now face Democrat, Dan Ahlers, in the upcoming November Election for South Dakota Governor.
Tripp County Commissioner meeting to happen on Friday
The public is encouraged to attend the Tripp County Commissioner meeting on Friday, July 31st at 10am. On the agenda will be a request to the County Commissioners to hold a public meeting regarding the passing of an emergency zoning ordinance. This ordinance will set a temporary pause on the establishment and construction on any new large scale commercial livestock confinements, which will allow the county to conduct critical studies that are needed on public health, infrastructure, electrical and water use.
Winner Fire Department gearing up for annual Poker Run this weekend
The 14th annual Winner Fire Department Poker Run will happen on Saturday, August 1st! Registration will go from 11am to Noon at the Winner Fire Department. They will leave town at 12:30. Prizes will be awarded at the Pheasant Bar at 6:30pm. It’s just $25 per ride, or $40 for a couple. All forms of transportation are invited to take part.

The 57th annual Winner Elk’s Benefit Rodeo wrapped up on Sunday night at the Tripp County Fairgrounds. Here’s a look at the results:

National High School Finals Rodeo highlights
Here’s a look at a few of the highlights from the National High School Finals Rodeo on Saturday in Lincoln. Nebraska:
Taos Weborg of Gregory County tied for 9th in Bull Riding in the short go. Roper Moore of Tripp County finished 12th in the short go in boys cutting. Team South Dakota finished fifth in the world in the girls team standings, while the boys team finished third in the world.
Miracle Treat Day coming up July 30th
Miracle Treat Day will take place on Thursday, July 30th at the Dairy Queen Grill and Chill in Winner. For every dollar raised from miracle balloons, proceeds will go to the Sanford Children’s Research Hospital. Balloons and Miracle Treat Day coupons can be purchased now.

Winner Fire Department to hold street dance tomorrow
The Winner Volunteer Fire Department will hold a street dance tomorrow night on Winner’s Main Street. The Rude Band will begin playing in the 8pm hour. Cost to attend will be $10 admission and all ages are welcome. Those under the age of 18 will be allowed to attend until 10pm, and shuttle service will be available too.
Benefit Lunch to happen in Burke on Saturday
A free will lunch benefit for fifteen year old, Tyson Bohnet, will happen this Saturday, July 25th at the old Community Room in Burke from Noon to 5:30. Proceeds will help defray medical expenses for a back injury. They will be serving sandwiches, chips, beans and drinks.
