Avenue of Flags needs your help this weekend

The Avenue of Flags needs your help for Memorial Day weekend at the Winner Cemetery. Sunday at 1pm, come help place small flags and crosses on the graves of veterans. At 4pm, there will be the placing of the flag poles by holes. On Memorial Day at 6am, they will put the flags in the poles. At 7am, stop by the American Legion for rolls, coffee and juice. At 4pm, they will remove, fold and store flags and store the flag poles.

Valentine to host a free clinic in June

There will be a free Farm and Ranch Clinic that will be held on Thursday, June 1st in Valentine at the Cherry County Extension Office. This clinic specializes in legal and financial issues relating to farming and ranching, financial planning, estate and transition planning, farm loan programs, debtor/creditor law, water and other relevant matter. Seminar to happen Thursday in Winner

Don’t forget that a customer service seminar will take place this Thursday, May 25th from 1-4pm at the 4-H Center in Winner. Dee Dee Rapp will speak on how great customer service can grow your business. Remember that this is a free seminar and is sponsored by SD Tourism, Tripp County and the Winner Area Chamber of Commerce. To register you can call Karla at 605-842-1533.

Judging Camp to happen in June

The third annual South Dakota State University Youth Livestock Judging Camp will be held on the SDSU Campus in two sessions. Session one will be held June 4th through the 6th and session two will be held June 8th through the 10th. This is open to youth ages 8 to 18. Registration will close May 26th. Vacation Bible School to start May 29th!

A reminder that the Winner United Methodist Church will hold Vacation Bible School titled “Hero Central” May 29th through June 2nd! It will begin at 5pm each evening with a meal and will end at 8pm each of the five nights. VBS is open to children ages five through the eighth grade. They ask that you please pre-register in advance at the Church office.

Rain reports called in Thursday morning

We had a good number of rain reports that were called in to the KWYR Studios this morning. Pete Haukaas in Okreek received an inch, 85. Ben Huber in White River called in 2.10 inches of rain. Stan Bicek who lives ten miles south of Colome received an inch 60. Vivian Sweeney who is northwest of Bassett received 75/100’s of an inch of rain. Fred Weidner at Dog Ear called in an inch thirty. Dennis Hansen at Carlock received an inch twenty five. Laura Reuer in Herrick said she received an inch and a half. Melvin Smith of Dallas reported two inches. Donna Howland called in an inch seventy and in downtown Winner we received an inch and a half.

A few weekend reminders

Don’t forget there will be a retirement reception for Greg and Renee Sherman and Cindy Sealey, long time teachers of the Colome School District, this Friday from 5-8pm at the Colome Legion. Carlock Dance Hall will be back with more great entertainment this weekend as “3 on the road” will play from 7:30 to 11:30 on Saturday night. JJ from Dakota Entertainment will be at Gregory Lanes Friday and Saturday night playing your favorite tunes and karaoke songs from 9 to closing. The fifth annual Winner Wacipi will be held at the Winner Middle School Gym this weekend. Grand entry will be at 7 on Saturday and Sunday grand entries will be at 1 and 7pm.

Six area schools to hold graduation Saturday

We have six of our area schools that will be holding graduation ceremonies this Saturday, May 20th. Todd County, Gregory, Winner, Lyman, White River and Platte/Geddes Schools will be holding ceremonies. We want to wish all seniors the best of luck in their future endeavors and to have a fun and safe weekend celebrating!
