Reminders for next week

Here are a couple of things that will be happening next week in the area: The Platte Chamber of Commerce Annual Walleye Fishing Derby will be held May 5th and the 6th. A Calcutta and rules meeting will take place May 5th at the Yellow Rose and the Derby is on Saturday, the 6th. The Spring Banquet fundraiser for “West River Pheasants Forever” is coming up on Saturday, May 6th. That fundraiser will happen at the Draper Auditorium starting at 5pm with a social hour.

Tripp County 4-H taking part in a clothing drive

The Tripp County 4-H Youth Group is taking part in a statewide clothing drive project now until the end of July! If you would like to help out and donate items to this big project, you can drop off your items at the Tripp County 4-H Extension Office that is located inside the Tripp County Courthouse in Winner. This project will run through July 31st.

Help out the Platte Food Pantry today !

The Helping Hands Community Food Pantry in Platte reminds everyone from the community to help keep their pantry stocked with goods. Items can be dropped off at the pantry on Wednesday’s from 1-5pm or in the blue food pantry totes at various churches throughout the Platte community. Your help with the food pantry is greatly appreciated!

Backpack Brunch coming up Sunday in Burke

Don’t forget that a Backpack Brunch will happen in Burke this weekend. The Burke Backpack Brunch event will be held Sunday, April 30th from 11am-1pm at the Burke Civic Center. They will be serving up egg bake, rolls, fruit and coffee. It is a free will offering and the proceeds will fund the Backpack program for the 2017-2018 school year.

Blood Drives happening this week

We have a couple of blood drives coming up that we wanted to remind you about for the week. A blood drive will happen in Butte, Nebraska today at the Butte Community Center running from 2:45-5:30. To make an appointment call Phyllis at 402-832-5777. A blood drive is set to take place tomorrow, Wednesday, April 26th at the Burke Civic Center from 11:30am to 5:45pm. To make an appointment for that drive you can call Vicki at 605-775-2374.

Tornado Drill to take place on Wednesday

Don’t forget that there will be a statewide Tornado Drill happening this Wednesday, April 26th. It will start with a watch followed by a tornado warning and the whistles will sound in each Tripp County town. The warning will start at around 10:15am. On Thursday, April 27th, there will be a storm spotter training course at the Valentine Fire Hall. There will be a course at 2pm and 6pm. Pre-School Registration to happen this week

It is time for Winner Pre-School registration! Pre-School visits will be on Tuesday, April 25th from 8-11am and from 12:30-3:30 with Nursery School Visits today from 8-10:30am and 1-3. Lyman Kindergarten and Pre-School screenings will be held on Thursday, April 27th from 8:15-Noon and from 1-3:30. There will be more screenings on Friday, the 28th from 8:15-Noon and from 1-3 at the Kennebec Gymnasium. Kindergarten pre-registration at Valentine Elementary has begun. Registration forms are available at the Elementary School. For more information call the school at 402-376-3237.

A few weekend reminders

Here are some of the many things going on in our area this weekend: Wild West Steakhouse will hold the Al and Robin Going Fishing Party tonight! Stop by for food, drinks, music and lots of fun. Doors will open at 5. An FFA Glow Run will happen tonight at the Bassett Country Club beginning at 8:30pm. The annual Chamberlain Bowling Awards Banquet will happen tonight at Al’s Oasis. Social Hour will start at 6. Tomorrow night the Winner Area Chamber of Commerce will present their annual Nite at the Races event. Stop by the Black Lab for the horse races!

Teach SD Class going on today

Do some of you have technology questions or maybe an interest in learning how to use your smart phone, computer, tablet, Facebook or apps? You can register for a free one hour Teach South Dakota Class that is scheduled for every Friday afternoon from 1-2pm at Grossenburg Implement in Winner! If you want to register you can call 842-1533.

Five proms being celebrated this weekend!

Five of our area schools will be celebrating prom this weekend! Students at Colome Schools will celebrate tomorrow night. Saturday night, students at Ainsworth, Keya Paha County, Burke and White Lake will have prom night. We are winding down the prom season as we will have just one area school left to celebrate prom after Saturday- Winner students have prom on Saturday, April 29th.
