The Colome Consolidated School District held a special election on June 20th  to determine if the consolidated part of the school district will be dissolved or not. The result was  149  votes for and 163 votes against.

The election required 50% to pass, this means the reorganization plan failed to pass the vote and the consolidated part of the district will not be dissolved.

The polls will be open today from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The polling locations are the fire hall in Colome, the city hall / post office in Witten, and the community hall in Wood.

The City of Gregory will hold their regular city council meeting Tuesday, June 20th at 6:00 p.m. at Gregory City Hall.  The Gregory typically meets on the first and third Monday of each month unless otherwise noted.

Directors and staff of the South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) will gather in Pierre June 28-29 for the Checkoff Academy and SDBIC Quarterly Board meeting.

The Checkoff Academy, hosted by staff from the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, will kick off the meeting at 2:00 pm CDT on Wednesday, June 28 at Red Rossa conference center in Pierre.  This event will provide the SDBIC Board and guests with some history and an overview of current national beef checkoff programs.  This meeting will provide a valuable opportunity for beef producers to network with their peers and gain a deeper understanding of the beef checkoff. All beef producers are invited to attend.

The SDBIC Quarterly Board meeting will follow on Thursday, June 29 at Drifters Conference Center in Ft. Pierre, SD. Committee meetings will begin at 7:30 am with the full board of directors meeting to follow at 10:30 am CST.

The Gregory Foundation Polka Fest Fundraiser takes place Friday, June 30th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Gregory 4-H Building in the park.  The cost is $10.00 per person.  Kids 12 years and young are free.  The evening will feature live music from the Gregory Area Polka Band.

The Third Annual Leo Westendorf Memorial Run will take place on Saturday, June 24th.  Sign up is at 11:00 a.m.  at the Pheasant Bar in Winner and departure will be at 12:00 p.m. It is a $25 entry fee which includes a t-shirt and meal after the ride.  The route will be announced the day of.

The Tripp County Grossenburg Memorial Library is holding a poetry contest this month through June 30th,  Eligible participants are kids that have completed grades Kindergarten through 5th Grade.   Entry forms and rules can be picked up at the library.  There will be one prize per grade awarded.

The Bonesteel Fire Department will host a pickup and tractor pull on Saturday, June 24th north of the Bonesteel Ball Fields off of Eldeen Avenue. with weigh in starting at 10:00 a.m. Cost for adults is $10, ages 6-12 are $5 , vets and kids under 6 are free.  The prize total that day will be $1000.
