Gregory County Food Drive underway

The Gregory County Holiday Food Drive is underway for the month of November! If you would like to donate to the Gregory County Food Pantry, items can be dropped off at the Burke High School DDN Room, the Gregory Catholic Church or at the South Central High School Office in Bonesteel. The food drive is taking place all month long in Gregory County!

Caring Coats Project happening in Chamberlain

A Caring Coats Project is underway in Chamberlain-Oacoma! The community is collecting gently used and new coats of all sizes, vests, gloves, scarves, mittens, hats and blankets right now. You can drop off those items at Hair Expressions. If you have a coat to give then please leave a coat. If you need a coat, then you are encouraged to take a coat. Workshop coming up in Ainsworth on Thursday

There will be a workshop this Thursday, November 17th from 10am-2pm at the Lutheran Church meeting hall in Ainsworth. Individuals will visit on the principles of SOD health, adaptive grazing and cover crop livestock integration. The workshop is being sponsored by the Nebraska Grazing Coalition and Nebraska Extension. To signup you can call the BKR Extension Office at 402-387-2213.

A couple of reminders for the week

Don’t forget that the Southern Belle Cattlewomen will hold their annual Beef Fest this Friday, November 18th from 11:30am to 1pm! It will take place at the 4-H Building in Winner. This Saturday, a benefit auction for Cleo Barry will take place at St. Mary’s Hall in Winner. Supper will start at 5pm with a silent and live auction to follow. All of the proceeds will go toward medical expenses as Cleo is fighting her third round of cancer. For more information or to donate call 208-1545, 208-0484, 840-9804 or 840-1229.

Fun weekend ahead in Gregory County!

A couple of big events will happen in Gregory County this weekend! Bonesteel’s fall tradition “Powder River” event will happen on Saturday at the Bonesteel American Legion. A local cowboy show will happen along with a play/party in celebration of veterans and our local American Legion. Show time will be at 8pm and a dance will happen from 9-1. There will be a costume contest and concessions will be available. Also on Saturday, the Burke Music Boosters will hold their Holiday Christmas Fair from 9am-3pm at the Burke Civic Center. Free admission for the event too!

Local Election results

Elections were held yesterday. There were 2 seats to be elected for House of Representatives in District 21. Winning those seats were Republican Lee Qualm with 5,434 votes and Democrat Julie Bartling with 5,151 votes. Also running was Democrat Gary Burrus who received 3,037 votes.

In Brule County they had an election for States Attorney. Republican David Natvig received 1,258 votes and Independent Theresa Maule Rossow received 1,004 votes. David Natvig will be the upcoming States Attorney in Brule County.

Gregory County had an Initiated Measure to amend the Gregory County Zoning ordinance by changing the classification of Wind Energy Systems from a conditional use to a permitted use. The yes votes were 348 and the no votes were 1,692.

 

Some big events coming up this weekend

If you are looking for some great entertainment in the area this weekend you can checkout the A’Cafellas Barbershop Chorus! They will present “At the Movies” this Saturday, November 12th at 3pm at the Dixon Town Hall in Gregory, and at 7:30 Saturday night at the Winner Community Playhouse. Another big event for this weekend is the Naper VFW Post #8256 49th annual Mountain Oyster feed! It will begin at 5pm at the VFW Hall on Saturday. A “sharing your blessings” walk will be held this Sunday in Burke starting at 5pm. Registration will begin at 4:45 at the Civic Center. Please bring two cans of food for the Local Food Bank!

Valentine reminders for today

We wanted to remind you about a couple of things that will take place in the heart city of Valentine this week. There will be a free farm ranch clinic that will be happening this afternoon. This clinic gives farmers and ranchers a chance to meet with ag law attorneys and ag financial counselors. To signup call 800-464-0258. Also for this evening, the Valentine School Board will meet at 5pm at the Valentine High School.

Reminders for today

KBR Rural Public Power will hold their regular meeting today starting at 1pm in the District office in Ainsworth. Chamberlain Youth Wrestling signup will be held from 5 to 7 this evening at the Chamberlain Community Center. The Burke City Council will hold a special meeting beginning at 7pm in the municipal meeting room in Burke. The Presho City Council will meet at their regular location tonight at 7pm. The Herrick Town Board will gather at 7pm tonight at the Herrick American Legion Hall.
