Clay County Fatal Crash

What:    Two vehicle fatal crash
Where:  Intersection of SD 46 and SD 19, two miles south of Centerville, SD
When:   8:14 a.m., Friday, January 16, 2026

Driver 1: 20-year-old male from Harrisburg, SD, no injuries
Vehicle 1: 2025 Ram 3500
Seat belt Used: Yes

Driver 2: 35-year-old male from Vermillion, SD, fatal injuries
Vehicle 2: 2011 Subaru Legacy
Seat belt Used: Yes

Clay County, S.D.- One person died Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash two miles south of Centerville, SD.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2025 Ram 3500 was traveling westbound on SD Highway 46 near the intersection of Highway 19. At the same time, the driver of a 2011 Subaru Legacy was traveling southbound on Highway 19, approaching the intersection at Highway 46. The Subaru entered the intersection and collided with the Ram. Both vehicles came to rest in the southwest ditch.

The driver of the Subaru sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Ram was not injured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Blood Drive set for next week in Winner

A two day blood drive will be held in the city of Winner next week. The first date is Wednesday, January 21st, from 10am to 3pm at the Winner City Office. If you cannot make it to the blood drive on the 21st, they will hold another blood drive on Thursday, January 22nd at the Winner City Office from 1 to 6pm.

Early morning accident on Sunday morning

The Tripp County Sheriff and Winner Fire Department responded to a single vehicle accident around 3am Sunday morning at Jordan Corner.  A cattle truck slid on icy roads and tipped over.  The only injuries in the accident were the loss of approximately 5 head of cattle.  The Semi had to be towed on Sunday afternoon.
