State Track and Field highlights from Saturday

The South Dakota High School State Track and Field Meet came to a close Saturday afternoon in Sioux Falls. The Gregory boys tied with Ipswich for the Class B team title as both programs finished with 54 points apiece. Sioux Falls Christian won the boys and girls team titles. Platte/Geddes finished fifth as a team on the boys side. Burke was sixth as a team on the girls side. The Colman/Egan Girls won the Class B title. Gregory’s Daniel Mitchell won a state championship in the Class B High Jump with a leap of 6-5. Lee Reiser of Platte/Geddes won a state championship in the Class A Discus with a throw of 57-07 1/4. Winner’s Shawn Hammerbeck was 13th. Gregory’s Kade Stukel won a state championship in the Boys Class B 100 Meter Dash in a time of 10.86. Colome’s Joseph Laprath won a state championship in the Boys Class B 1600 Meter Run in a time of 4:35:42. Platte/Geddes won a state championship in the Boys Class A 4 X 1 relay in a time of 43:80. Gregory won a state championship in the boys Class B 4 X 1 Relay in a time of 44.24. Burke’s Nick Nelson placed eighth in the Boys Class B 400. Burke’s Piper Hanson placed fourth in the Girls Class B 300 Hurdles, and she placed third in the Girls Class B 100 Hurdles. Winner’s Keelie Kuil placed third overall in the Girls Class A 400 Meter Dash while her teammate Preslie Petersek was fourth in the event. Gregory’s Asia VanDerWerff placed sixth overall in the Girls Class B 400 Meter Dash. The Burke Girls placed eighth overall in the Class B 4 X 1 Relay. Winner’s Aiden Barfuss placed sixth overall in the Boys Class A 100 Meter Dash. Gregory’s Kade Stukel placed fourth overall in the Boys Class B 200 Meter Dash. Lyman’s Rory McManus placed third overall in the Boys Class B 110 Hurdles. Burke placed seventh in the Girls Class B 4 X 2 Relay. The Winner Girls placed seventh in the Girls Class A 4 X 2 Relay. The Platte/Geddes Boys placed runner up in the Class A 4 X 2 Relay. The Gregory Boys placed fourth in the Class B 4 X 2 Relay. Jones County’s Jolie Dugan placed seventh overall in the Girls Class B Mile. In the Girls Class A mile, Chamberlain’s Kinsey Evans placed eighth overall. The Jones County Girls placed fourth overall in the Girls 4 X 4 relay, while Burke placed eighth. In the Boys Class B 4 X 4 Relay, Gregory placed fifth while Burke was seventh. In the Girls Class A 4 X 4 Relay, Kimball/White Lake placed sixth.
