Gardening Workshop coming up in Winner

South Dakota State University Extension will be hosting a Gardening Workshop on Tuesday, March 17th at the SDSU Extension Winner Regional Center from 6 -7pm. Topics will include seed-starting, transplanting, soil fertility, varietal selection, irrigation requirements, protected cultivation, integrated pest management, and harvest strategies tailored to local environmental conditions.  This one hour workshop will be offered in seven communities and is open to participants of all gardening skill levels.  The class will be taught by Nick Volesky, SDSU Extension Horticulture and Specialty Crops Field Specialist based in Rapid City.

Results of Colome Chili Cook-Off

The Lariat Loopers 4-H Club held their annual chili cook-off on Saturday night at the Colome Legion. Here’s a look at first place finishers in each category:

1st for best chili went to the Lariat Loopers 4H Club

1st for best unusual was Robin Fast

1st for hottest chili went to the Clovervale 4H Club

1st for best non-chili went to Border Bumpers 4H Club

1st for best dessert went to the Musser family.

Summit League and RMAC Tournament pairings revealed

It’s March Madness time! The Summit League Men’s and Women’s Tournament brackets  are out! The tournaments will happen at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. The Women’s Tournament will start Wednesday evening as 8 seeded Omaha takes on 9 seeded North Dakota at 4:30. South Dakota State is the two seed as they will play Thursday at noon against 7 seeded Kansas City. North Dakota State is the top seed, and they will play the winner of the Omaha and North Dakota game at around 2:30 on Thursday. In Game 4 Friday at Noon, four seeded Oral Roberts will take on 5 seeded St. Thomas. USD is the three seed, and they will play at around 2:30 on Friday against six seeded Denver. The Conference Championship will be Sunday at 3pm. The Men’s Summit League Tournament will begin Wednesday night at 7pm as 8 seeded Oral Roberts takes on 9 seeded Kansas City at 7pm. At 6pm on Thursday, top seeded North Dakota State will take on the winner of game 1. 7 seeded South Dakota State will play Thursday at around 8:30pm against two seeded St. Thomas. USD is the four seed, and they will play Friday at 6pm against five seeded Omaha. At around 8:30 on Friday, three seeded North Dakota will take on six seeded Denver. The Men’s Conference Championship Game will happen Sunday night at 8pm. In the RMAC Tournament, Black Hills State is the number one overall seed, and they will play Colorado Springs Tuesday at home at 8pm central.

Saturday State Wrestling results

The South Dakota High School State Wrestling Tournaments wrapped up Saturday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. Canton won the Boys Class B Team Championship with 161.5 points. Winner finished runner up with 149 points. Tri Valley was third with 137 points. Kimball/White Lake/Platte/Geddes finished fourth with 136 points. State Champions for Winner were: Apollo Willuweit at 106, Roukyn Robbins at 126 and Ryken Orel at 150. The Class A Boys Team Championship went to Sturgis as they finished with 219.5 points. Brandon Valley was second with 174.5 points. Canton won the girls team championship with 169 points. A  look below at each State Champion in all Class B Weight Classes:

Canton is atop the girls team standings entering day 3 with 140 points. Canton is atop the Boys Class B team standings with 147.5 points. Winner is second with 133 points, and Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes is third with 126 points. Sturgis is atop the Boys Class A team standings with 207.5 points. Summer job opening with Tripp County 4-H

The Tripp County 4-H Program is looking to fill a 4-H summer assistant position. Applicants must be 21, have 4-H experience and working with youth.
