Basketball gets underway in Nebraska tomorrow!

Believe it or not, High School Basketball will get underway for a few of our area schools in Nebraska tomorrow! North Central will be on the road for a boys and girls doubleheader when they play at Boyd County. In the heart city of Valentine on Thursday, the Lady Badgers and Badgers will play host to O’Neill in their opener. Friday, North Central will be back in action for another doubleheader when they play in Burwell while Ainsworth tips off in Ord.

Important meeting coming up in Platte

A second public meeting/open house will be put on by the South Dakota Department of Transportation and the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks in regard to the South Dakota Highway 44/Platte-Winner Bridge Corridor study and environmental assessment on Wednesday, December 13th from 5:30-7pm at the Platte Community Center. There will be a short presentation at 5:45 and everyone is welcome to attend.

Nominate a Nebraska Cowboy!

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 Nebraska Sand Hills Cowboy Hall of Fame. The Sand Hills Cowboy Hall of Game honors the men and women who have made lasting contributions to the Sand Hills and our cowboy way of life. Nominations are due by December 31st, 2017. They can be sent to PO Box 127, Ainsworth, NE, 69210 or go to sandhillscowboy.com.

Jacks prevail in OT

The South Dakota State Men’s Basketball team was able to prevail in overtime on the road last night over Ole Miss, 99-97. The Jacks led by twenty at half before the Rebels outscored State, 47-27 in the second half to force overtime. Mike Daum led the way in the scoring column with 26 points.

11B All-State team released

The Class 11B All-State Football team has been revealed. Chamberlain Defensive Tackle Nash Hutmacher made the squad. Hutmacher had five sacks on the season to go along with a couple of fumble recoveries. Winner Linebacker Levi McClanahan made the team as he had 89 total tackles. Winner defensive back Riley Calhoon made the all state squad too.

 

A busy Saturday in Brule County

A couple of holiday events will be happening in Brule County this Saturday. The United Church of Christ in Chamberlain will hold a Christmas Cookie Sale from 8:30 to Noon. The cost for a plate of cookies will be two dollars and there will be a couple of raffle items too. Also on Saturday, the Christmas in the Village Craft Fair will be happening at the Oacoma Community Center from 9-3. There will be over thirty vendors featuring food and craft items. Indian Tacos will be served for lunch starting at 1.

Benefit breakfast coming up Sunday

Dakota Senior Meals in Gregory will be having a benefit brunch breakfast on December 3rd from 11am-1:30pm at the Dakota Senior Meals sight. There will be a full omelet bar, pancakes, sausage, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. Cost of admission is seven dollars for those ten and older, three dollars for those ten to three years of age and three and younger get in for free. The benefit is to help with the cost of purchasing a new commercial dishwasher. The event is being hosted by the Gregory IOOF Lodge.

Winner Elk's Hoop Shoot set for Saturday

The annual Winner Elk’s Hoop Shoot will be held this Saturday, December 2nd at the Middle School Auditorium with registration getting underway at 1pm and the shoot will follow. Boys and girls divisions will be for ages 8 and 9, 10 and 11 and 12 and 13 as of April 1st of 2018. For more information contact Gary at 842-2950 or Connie at 208-7297.
