Sports Zone and Husker Huddle return today

The Sports Zone with Doski and Casey Hutmacher of Oacoma returns at 1:45 this afternoon on Magic 93 as the guys break down each NFL game for the week and make their picks. At the end of the show the guys will giveaway a Bud Light prize package to one lucky caller. Also returning today is Husker Huddle. Chris will talk to a local Big Red fan to break down the huge matchup that awaits Nebraska this weekend as  they host Wisconsin at 7pm. The program will air on Country 1260 at around 3:45, and then it will be on Magic 93 tonight at around 7:10.

Groundbreaking ceremony held Wednesday

Last evening, Winner Regional Healthcare Center held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 23 million dollar addition to the current facility. Over one hundred people were in attendance that featured speakers Jody Engel, Carol Horstman, Jill Swallow, Cally Knightpipe and Dr. Tony Berg. Those people along with the governing board of Winner Regional and CEO Kevin Coffey participated in the initial groundbreaking at the ceremony. A meal was served afterwards at the Winner National Guard Armory.

Cherry County news for next week

The Cherry County Ag Society will meet on Monday, October 9th at 7pm in the 4-H building at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. On Tuesday the 10th, the Valentine School Board will meet at 5pm at Valentine High School. A free farm ranch clinic will be held on Wednesday the 11th at the Cherry County Extension Office. On Thursday, October 12th, the Valentine City Council will meet at 7pm in the meeting room of the Valentine Public Library.

Winner Fire Department responds to fire

The Winner Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday morning  responded to fifteen bales on fire at the Jerry Fisher residence, four miles south on County Road, and then a mile and a half west on the gravel road. Weather conditions for the coming days call for chances of rain through Friday night. Stay tuned to KWYR AM and FM for the latest weather updates!

Couple of reminders for next week

There will be a taco festival in the river city next week! It will be held on Wednesday, October 11th from 5 to 7pm at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain. Doors will open at 4:30. Rocktoberfest will be held in Bassett, Nebraska on Saturday, October 14th in downtown Bassett! Twenty dollar wristbands will be available until Friday, the 13th. The day of the event they will be twenty five dollars.

Blood drives coming up in the area

A blood drive will be taking place in Burke on Wednesday, October 18th from 11am-5:30pm at the Burke Gym. To schedule an appointment call Elaine at 775-2641. Colome will hold a blood drive on Wednesday, October 25th from noon-5:30pm at the American Legion. To make an appointment call Vicki at 842-0270. Bonesteel will host a blood drive on Thursday, October 26th from 8am-12:30 at the Community Center. To make an appointment you need to call Dennis at 654-2202.

Roncalli victorious at State 'A' Golf Tournament

The Aberdeen Roncalli Boys Golf team claimed victory on Tuesday at the State ‘A’ Golf Tournament in Dakota Dunes. Roncalli finished with a 649 two day team score, well ahead of second place Dakota Valley, who had a 674 team score. Roncalli’s Lucas Schaefbauer finished first overall as he shot a 149, five strokes ahead of Tea Area’s Kolby Newborg. Cameron Caldwell was the top area golfer as the Chamberlain sophomore  shot a 177. Parkston’s Jacob Lee finished third overall.

Cowboys to host unbeaten Corsica/Stickney on Friday

Two dominant nine man football teams will battle it out Friday in Colome when the second ranked Cowboys (6-0) host the undefeated and top ranked Corsica/Stickney Jaguars, who are 6-0 too. The Jaguars have allowed only 20 points in their last four games combined. They allowed twenty two to Avon in their week 0 victory, 50-22. Corsica/Stickney has shutout TDA-AC/DC and Centerville the last two weeks.The Cowboys are coming off a hard fought 20-14 win from Friday against Scotland. Much like the Jags, Colome’s defense has been solid all season as the Cowboys have not allowed more than fourteen points in a single game. The Cowboys will finish their regular season with a couple of tests- Corsica/Stickney Friday before they head to Avon on the 13th.
