Winner to play MVP at 4pm Friday

Due to the possibilty of inclement weather, the Winner at Mt. Vernon/Plankinton football game for Friday has been moved up to 4pm in Mt. Vernon. Pre-game coverage on Country 1260 will start at 3:30. The Titans are 3-2 and have won two straight. Brent Olson’s team has defeated Wagner (38-0), Redfield/Doland (43-6) and Flandreau (48-20). Winner (3-1) looks to continue to be Warriors on the road. Winner has won three straight since dropping the season opener to Sioux Falls Christian. Winner will finish the regular season with games against MVP, Chamberlain comes to town for the homecoming game next week before another home game against Wagner followed by the regular season finale at Wessington Springs.

Tailgate cookout to happen Friday

The 23rd annual tailgate cookout will be held on Friday, September 22nd from 6-7pm before the Chamberlain vs Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central football game at Don Giese Field. Come out and help First Dakota National Bank show support to the High School and appreciation to the community! Go Cubs!

Pink Posse event set for October 7th

The Pink Posse 2017 neon walk/run will be held on October 7th at the Winner Golf Course. Registration will start at 5pm, the race will begin at 5:30 and a meal will follow. Registration includes a t-shirt, water bottle and meal. There will be a drawing for a quilt raffle donated by the Haukaas family along with a Yeti cooler and a one night stay at the Holiday Inn in Pierre. Please come out and help support breast cancer.

Husker Football returns on 1260 this weekend

Husker Football will be back on Country 1260 Saturday afternoon as Big Red will host Rutgers at 2:30. Our coverage will start at 1:40 with the Mike Riley pre-game show. Remember today Doski will be back with Husker Huddle as he will break down the very latest with Jeremy Clay of Winner. Wednesday reminders

The Community Services Program at Northwest Community Action Partnership (NCAP) will sponsor a mobile food pantry with the food bank of the heartland this evening from 5-7pm at the Cherry County Fairgrounds in Valentine. Remember that the Winner and Gregory Bakeries have reopened! Stop by and grab your favorite fresh rolls and baked goods!

News for next week

Just a reminder that the North Central Nebraska RC&D has changed their September meeting date to next Tuesday, September 26th beginning at 3:30 at the City Office Meeting Room in Bassett. Also for next week, the Springview Spit Fire’s 5K Color Run will be held on Wednesday, the 27th beginning at 6:30pm at the Springview Courthouse. This is a fundraiser for cancer research.

Pre-Region Golf from Tuesday

The Pre-Region 3A Boys Golf Meet was held in Pierre on Tuesday. Jacob Lee of Parkston finished first overall as he shot a 73. Quinn Bormann of Parkston was second with a 73 while Cameron Caldwell of Chamberlain was third as he carded an 80. Thomas Denoyer of St. Francis was sixth as he shot an 86. Drayton Priebe of Chamberlain was seventh with an 86, Bryce Hammer of Todd County was eighth as he too shot an 86. Chamberlain’s Carter Feltman was ninth with an 88 and Gage Watson was Winner Area’s top golfer yesterday.

Gorillas and Cavaliers to clash Friday night

It will be number one versus number two in Class 9AA football Friday night when the second ranked Bon Homme Cavaliers head to Mike Dacy Field to battle the top ranked Gregory Gorillas. The Cavaliers (5-0) have found a few different ways to win games this season. Bon Homme started out the season with a 6-0 win over Parkston before they hosted Wolsey-Wessington and scored a 37-0 victory. In week two, Bon Homme went to Miller and beat Miller/Highmore-Harrold, 34-28. Two weeks ago, Bon Homme pulled out a hard fought 22-14 win over Kimball/White Lake before beating Lower Brule last week, 54-0. Brian Allmendinger’s Gorillas (4-0) have been dominant in their first four games. They beat Kimball/White Lake in week 0, 48-16. They then went to Parkston and beat the Trojans, 36-8. In week 2, Gregory defeated Jones County/White River, 56-6 before defeating Rapid City Christian on Friday, 52-0. Here is what the Gorillas last four games look like: Home against Bon Homme, at Platte-Geddes, home to Wolsey-Wessington before hosting Miller/Highmore-Harrold on October 13th.
