Amateur Baseball from Thursday- Blue Jays clip Pheasants

Garretson was able to hold off Winner/Colome’s ninth inning rally last night at Cadwell Park as the Blue Jays held on for a 6-5 victory. The Pheasants scored three times in the ninth before Derek Fischer was able to strand the tying run at third base to end the game. Lakin Neugebauer led the Winner/Colome offense with three hits while Derek Graesser and Austin Calhoon had two hits apiece. Brady Bonte led the Blue Jays offense with three hits. Garretson advances to Saturday’s semifinal round where they will play Larchwood, who beat Irene in game two last night, 15-2 in seven innings.

First Aid youth training coming up Monday

Keep in mind that mental health First Aid youth training will be happening on Monday, August 14th from 8am-4pm next week at the White River Methodist Church down in the basement room. There is no cost to attend the training. Books, materials and lunch will all be provided. If you would like to register, call Joyce Glynn at 605-441-5389.

Grossenburg celebrating 80 years!

Grossenburg Implement in Winner will be celebrating 80 years of business on Main Street tonight from 5:30 to 9pm on the first block! Tonight’s event will be a benefit for Larry Zeigler. Food will be provided by Grossenburg Implement and area ranchers. Live music will be provided by Too Drunk To Fish. Activities for the night will include: A fishing pond, face painting, stick horses, money dig, roping, ring toss, duck pond and rock painting. Easy Entrees will be selling pie and snow cones too. Come help them celebrate tonight!

Amateur scores from Wednesday

At Cadwell Park last night, the Alexandria Angels scored a 15-7 win over the Canton Aces at the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell. Tyson Gau hit a two run home run to get the Angels offense going in the first inning. Game two last night was won by Madison as the Broncos defeated Four Corners, 6-3. A bases clearing triple in the eighth inning that broke a 3-3 tie was the difference in the game as Madison will play Alexandria in the quarterfinal round on Friday night at 7:30.

Another busy weekend filled with golf!

It will be another action packed weekend of golf in the area. Friday, the Winner Lady Warrior Basketball team will hold their annual fundraising golf tournament at 6pm at the Winner Country Club. Saturday, the Gregory County Cup will take place. The Glow Ball two person scramble will happen in Ainsworth Saturday. A couples tournament is set to happen on Saturday at the Medicine Creek Golf Course. The Booster Club four person scramble will be happening at the Chamberlain Country Club. Sunday, the Benson/Haley/Gant one man scramble will take place at 11am in Winner.

Community Connections holding a health supplies drive

Community Connections in Winner is holding a “off to a healthy start” health supplies drive for local schools now through August 18th. Donations of tissues, hand sanitizers, cleaning wipes etc. can be dropped off at the donation boxes located at Winner Sooper Foods, Winner Food Center, Dollar General, Family Dollar or at Shopko. Help the kids get off to school on a healthy start!

Orientation to take place in Winner next week

Winner High School Orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 15th at 6pm in the Winner Armory for students entering grades 9-12. Parents must accompany a student to complete paperwork so they can be allowed to pickup a computer and take home. Middle School Orientation for grades 6-8 will take place on Thursday, August 17th at 6pm in the Armory. Students will receive schedules and other information during the meetings.
