The Winner/Colome Pheasants were able to set the tone early in the opening game of the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament at Cadwell Park last night as they took down Dell Rapids PBR, 8-2. The game was delayed a little over two hours in Mitchell due to rain. Derek Graesser was the winning pitcher as he struck out eleven and allowed only four hits. Austin Richey had a big night at the plate for the Pheasants as he went three for four and drove in three runs. Graesser, Jared Donahue and Reed Harter each chipped in two hits apiece for Winner/Colome, who advance to take on the Vermillion Grey Sox on Sunday at 5:30. Vermillion was victorious over Clark, 11-7.
The State B Amateur Baseball Tournament will get underway at 5:30 this evening when the Winner/Colome Pheasants take on Dell Rapids PBR at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. Coverage will be provided by Steve Morgan on Magic 93 starting at around 5pm.The Pheasants are 15-8 and have defeated multiple solid teams this season, including the win over Alexandria back in late May. PBR had to battle through the Cornbelt League Tournament to earn a spot at state. Dell Rapids was just 1-13 in league play in the regular season before they started to catch fire in the playoffs. They beat Hartford/Humboldt and Colman to punch their state tournament ticket.
Just a reminder that Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University classes will be offered at St. Mary’s Hall in Winner beginning Tuesday, August 15th. The classes will be two hours long once a week and will go for nine weeks. If you happen to have any questions in regards to the classes feel free to give Tom a call at 605-519-8009.
The Burke “Dog Days” will be held this weekend! Dog Days will run Friday, August 4th through Sunday, the 6th with events planned each of the three days, including live music, golf and the alumni parade. In other news, kids can come to the rock in Burke for some Summer Son on Thursday, August 3rd from 10:30-11:30am. It is open to kids in fourth through eighth grades. Lots of games and fun with a bible lesson!

Kennedy Leiferman and Alison Sinclair of Kimball will be heading to the USA Northern National Tournament that gets underway Thursday in Mankato, Minnesota! Leiferman and Sinclair play on the Mitchell-area under-14 softball team. The team has gone 25-6 this season and finished second overall in the state tournament. They will take on Sleepy Eye Minnesota in the first game of the tournament at 9am Thursday morning. Good luck girls!

The Wall that Heals, a Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica and mobile education center will be on display next week in Central South Dakota. You will be able to check it out August 9th through the 13th at the rest area off I-90 in Chamberlain. The display will be open to the public 24 hours a day.
