Another busy weekend filled with golf!

It will be another action packed weekend of golf in the area. Friday, the Winner Lady Warrior Basketball team will hold their annual fundraising golf tournament at 6pm at the Winner Country Club. Saturday, the Gregory County Cup will take place. The Glow Ball two person scramble will happen in Ainsworth Saturday. A couples tournament is set to happen on Saturday at the Medicine Creek Golf Course. The Booster Club four person scramble will be happening at the Chamberlain Country Club. Sunday, the Benson/Haley/Gant one man scramble will take place at 11am in Winner.

Community Connections holding a health supplies drive

Community Connections in Winner is holding a “off to a healthy start” health supplies drive for local schools now through August 18th. Donations of tissues, hand sanitizers, cleaning wipes etc. can be dropped off at the donation boxes located at Winner Sooper Foods, Winner Food Center, Dollar General, Family Dollar or at Shopko. Help the kids get off to school on a healthy start!

Orientation to take place in Winner next week

Winner High School Orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 15th at 6pm in the Winner Armory for students entering grades 9-12. Parents must accompany a student to complete paperwork so they can be allowed to pickup a computer and take home. Middle School Orientation for grades 6-8 will take place on Thursday, August 17th at 6pm in the Armory. Students will receive schedules and other information during the meetings. Amateur Baseball from Tuesday

Two more games were held at the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell on Tuesday. In game one, Harrisburg was able to shutout Tabor, 6-0. Drew Sweeter threw a complete game shutout on the mound to grab the victory as he struck out six and allowed six hits. In game two, Crofton, Nebraska beat the Dell Rapids Mudcats, 6-1. Cameron Kerkhove was the winning pitcher as he scattered five hits and and walked a couple batters. Crofton will now play Harrisburg in the quarterfinal round at 5:30 on Friday at Cadwell Park.

 

Classes to start at St. Mary's Hall next week

Just a reminder that Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University classes will be offered at St. Mary’s Hall in Winner beginning Tuesday, August 15th. The classes will be two hours long once a week and will go for nine weeks. If you happen to have any questions in regards to the classes feel free to give Tom a call at 605-519-8009.

Blood drives coming up later this month

A blood drive will take place in Butte, Nebraska on Tuesday, August 22nd from 2-5:45pm at the Butte Community Center. If you would like to make an appointment you can call Phyllis at 402-832-5777.  Another blood drive will happen at the Burke Civic Center on Wednesday, August 23rd running from Noon to 5pm. Amateur Baseball from Monday night

At the State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament last night in Mitchell, Larchwood defeated Freeman in game one, 7-4. Irene won the nightcap over Mt. Vernon by a final score of 6-5. Irene will take on Larchwood in the quarterfinal round Thursday night at Cadwell Park after Winner/Colome plays Garretson. The Winner/Colome game will start at 5:30 and can be heard on 93.7FM as Doski will have the call.
