Friday night baseball scores

In amateur baseball last night, the Alexandria Angels got past the Winner/Colome Pheasants, 4-3 at the Pond in Parkston to win the District 5 Championship of the Sunshine League Tournament. Tyson Gau put the Angels ahead for good in the seventh inning on a double steal. Alexandria fought back after being down 3-1 in the seventh inning. Lakin Neugebauer hit a sacrifice fly for the Pheasants, who now turn their focus to the first round of the state b tournament that starts Wednesday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.In Regional Teener Baseball Friday, Colome was eliminated by Corsica by a final score of 5-3.

 

Burke news for August

The Burke “Dog Days” will be held next weekend! Dog Days will run August 4th through the 6th with events planned each of the three days, including live music, golf and the alumni parade. In other news, kids can come to the rock in Burke for some Summer Son next Thursday, August 3rd from 10:30-11:30am. It is open to kids in fourth through eighth grades. Lots of games and fun with a bible lesson!

Retirement Auction to happen Monday

Jack Clark at the Gregory Livestock Auction will be holding a retirement auction on Monday, July 31st beginning at 5pm at Gregory Livestock. He will be selling off lots of gates and panels, posts, miscellaneous livestock items, tools and more. Baseball from Thursday

Regional Teener Baseball wrapped up in Salem on Thursday. In game one, Onida defeated Kimball/White Lake, 22-20. In game two, Onida won the region championship and punched their ticket to the state tournament that starts next Friday in Gregory as they beat Kimball/White Lake, 10-8. In the District 3 Amateur Baseball Tournament Thursday, the Miller/Wessington Outlaws outlasted Kimball/White Lake, 6-5. With the win, the Outlaws are headed to the state tournament that gets underway Wednesday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

American Island Days coming up in Chamberlain

Don’t forget that American Island Days are coming up in the river city of Chamberlain August 19th and the 20th! There will be a 5k zombie run on Saturday the 19th at the Busted Nut parking lot along with the Mighty Mo Car Show and the Ag Olympics that weekend too. Lyman and Tripp County road news

The Lyman County Highway Department reminds everyone about a road closure to through traffic on County Road 25 and 232nd street northwest of Presho for the Nies Bridge replacement. It will remain closed through August 16th. In other news, the City of Winner will be hosting a public meeting on Monday, July 31st at 5pm at the Council Chambers. The meeting is regarding Main Street continuing as a one way or changing it to a two way street when the state DOT will be redoing the highway through Winner in 2020.

Busy weekend filled with golf in the area

We have many golf tournaments that will be happening in Central South Dakota and North Central Nebraska this weekend. Friday, the WInner Area Chamber of Commerce will host their annual tournament beginning at 6pm at the Winner Country Club. The Wellness Center two person scramble will happen Friday night at the Lake Platte Golf Course. Saturday, five golf tournaments will take place- Couples Tournament in Gregory, Ladies two person scramble in Ainsworth, Murdo Ford Tournament, two lady best ball in Winner and the Lyman Alumni four person scramble. The weekend of golf will wrap up on Sunday with a Couples Tournament at the Chamberlain Country Club.

Scores from Wednesday

Teener Regional Baseball resumed Wednesday in Corsica. In game one, Gregory defeated Platte/Geddes, 5-3. Game two went to Tabor as they came back to defeat Corsica, 10-6. The nightcap was won by Colome as they beat Gregory, 10-4. In postseason amateur baseball Wednesday, Platte was able to punch their ticket to the state tournament in Mitchell as they beat Corsica/Stickney, 9-4. The District 3 Championship was won by Plankinton as they were victorious over Four Corners last night by a final score of 4-2.

Wednesday morning rain reports

We had more rain reports called in to the KWYR studios this morning. Pete Haukaas said he received 75/100’s Tuesday with 50 mile per hour wind gusts. Two miles southeast of Winner, Donna Howland had 45/100’s fall. Stan Bicek, 10 miles south of Colome, had an inch 40. At Haley’s Hiway Lumber, Short Haley received half an inch. Short received an inch at his home. Ben Huber in White River recieved half an inch. At the Bowling residence, eleven miles south of Winner, they called in an inch 20. In Chamberlain, Elaine Larson said an inch and a half fell in downtown, and three inches was reported up on I-90 by Dairy Queen. Fred Weidner at Dog Ear Lake received an inch of rain. Dennis at Carlock said he came away with 55/100’s. Cody Jorgensen in Ideal had .70. Vivian Sweeney, northwest of Bassett, received an inch and a half. Tex in Hamill recieved two and a quarters inch Tuesday. Laura Reuer in Herrick called in half an inch and Marty Hopkins southwest of Winner received 70/100s.
