Preview for the State B Legion Baseball Tournament

The 2017 Class B State Legion Baseball Tournament will get underway Friday morning at Leahy Bowl! 10am, Region 6 Champion Groton will take on Region 3B Champ Vermillion. Game two will see Region 1 Champion Milbank take on the 7B Champ, Spearfish at around 12:30. At 5pm, Platte/Geddes, the 4B Champion, will square off against 2B Champion, Dell Rapids. Pre-game coverage will start at 4:30 on 93.7FM. Game four will start at around 7:30 as Winner/Colome will take on Region 5 Champion McCook/Miner. The last two games of the night will be on Magic 93. We will cover Platte/Geddes and Winner/Colome all throughout the tournament!

Fallen hero service to happen in Long Pine

A fallen hero from the Korean War is coming home. Richard J. Seadore, who enlisted in the army from Mellette County, was captured during a battle north of Seoul and later died in a POW camp in North Korea in 1951. A graveside service will be held with full military honors on August 4th beginning at 2pm at the Grandview Cemetery in Long Pine, Nebraska. Area VFW, American Legion Post members and Legion Riders are invited to stand and ride in honor of their fallen comrade.

Dennis Hansen selected as 'Promoter of the Year'

Come help Dennis Hanson and the Carlock Dance Hall celebrate as he has been selected as “Promoter of the Year” by the South Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame! A reception will be held at Carlock Dance Hall on Sunday, July 30th with music starting at 2 and lunch will be served. There will be a fundraiser to help provide music supplies to the Gregory Elementary Music Education Program. All of us here at KWYR want to congratulate Dennis on the great honor!

Coverage from Leahy Bowl tomorrow!

Doski will be at Leahy Bowl for coverage of the State B Legion Baseball Tournament on Friday as he will cover games three and four. Game three will start at 5pm as Platte/Geddes will play Dell Rapids. Pre-game coverage will start at 4:30. Game four will see Winner/Colome take on McCook/Miner at around 7:30. Join us early as we will hear from the coaches during the pregame shows tomorrow!

Hunt Safe class to happen July 28th and 29th

A Tripp County Hunt Safe Class will take place on Friday, July 28th from 6:30-9pm and on Saturday, July 29th from 8am-5pm at the Rosebud Arrow, Rod & Gun Club in Winner. The classes are open to ages eleven and up. Students must attend both class sessions. To register, go to gfp.sd.gov/hunt-ed, or you can call Tim at 605- 842-0855.

American Island Days coming up in Chamberlain

Don’t forget that American Island Days are coming up in the river city of Chamberlain August 19th and the 20th! There will be a 5k zombie run on Saturday the 19th at the Busted Nut parking lot along with the Mighty Mo Car Show and the Ag Olympics that weekend too. District 3 Amateur Tournament to start Saturday

The District 3B Amateur Baseball Tournament will get underway on Saturday, July 22nd as Miller will host the entire postseason tournament. Game one will start at five as the South Central Storm take on the Kimball/White Lake Nationals. Game two will follow as Miller/Wessington takes on the Chamberlain Mallards. Earning first round byes in the tournament are top seeded Four Corners and two seeded Plankinton.

Cross Country Camp happening in Mission!

Todd County High School is hosting a cross country team camp from 10am-3pm today! Presenters that will be in attendance are: SDSU Head Cross Country Coach Rod Dehaven, USD Head Cross Country Coach Daniel Fitzsimmons, St. Thomas More Head coach Royce Wuertz and Rapid City Stevens Coach Jesse Coy. There is no cost to attend and is open to the public. There will be a two mile run and scavenger hunt in Mission as part of the event.

Central South Dakota rain reports

Certain parts of Central South Dakota had rain fall Monday night! Dennis Hansen at Carlock received 15/100’s. William Soles, five miles east of Gregory, called in half an inch. Pete Haukaas said he had 15/100’s fall. Renae Kaiser in Winner had 20/100’s. Marty Hopkins west of Dog Ear Lake had 75/100’s. Charlotte Piper in Wood called in 25/100’s. Fred Weidner at Dog Ear Lake received 25/100’s. Reports in Iona ranged anywhere from .80 to an inch 70! Domini Turnquist had 80/100’s 13 miles east and 5 miles north of Winner. Tresh Swedlund in Witten had an inch and a half of rain fall Monday night! Austin Davis who lives 28 miles south of Winner had 88/100’s fall. Clint Vanneman in Ideal received 84/100’s and at the Rowe Farm 22 miles northwest of Winner they received 30/100s.
