Howard Wood Relay results from Friday

The Howard Wood Relays got underway on Friday in Sioux Falls. In the special event 200 meter dash last night, Winner’s Cameron Kuil placed third. Denzel Brown of Eden Prairie won the race in 21.36 seconds. Kuil ran it in 22.17. Legacy’s Alex Brosseau was second as he ran a 22.08. The Burke/South Central boys 4×800-meter relay team of Tyson Mayer, Vladik Johnson, Jaden Frank and Kray Person finished in second place, running a time of 8:34.72. James Valley Christian won that race in 8:30.79. In the girls class ‘B’ 4 x 800 meter relay, Lyman finished seventh. In the girls class ‘A’ 4 x 800 meter relay, the team of Chloe Bartels, Saige Schuyler, Sidda Schuyler, and Sam Schuyler finished fourth for Winner with a time of 9:54:11. Madison was first as they ran a 9:38:62. Hallie Hallock of Platte-Geddes finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 39.75. In the girls two mile run, Chamberlain’s Ella Byers finished thirteenth overall while Sidda Schuyler of Winner was 23rd. In the boys two mile run, Winner’s Izak Moleterno was 29th as he ran a 10:25:37.

 

Keya Paha County to hold graduation tomorrow

Keya Paha County Seniors are ready to receive their diplomas! Keya Paha County’s graduation ceremony is set to take place on Saturday, May 6th beginning at 2pm.  Next weekend we have numerous area schools holding graduation ceremonies. Saturday, the 13th, Rock County, Valentine, Kimball and Colome will all celebrate graduation. Sunday, the 14th, Seniors at South Central, Jones County, Chamberlain and Ainsworth will graduate. Best of luck in your future endeavors!

A few notes for this weekend

Don’t forget that the annual Platte Chamber of Commerce Walleye Fishing Derby will be happening this weekend! A Calcutta and rules meeting will take place Friday night at the Yellow Rose and the fishing will start at 7am Saturday. The Black Lab in Winner invites everyone to stop by to celebrate Cinco De Mayo Friday night as they will be serving up tacos, chips and salsa along with five dollar margaritas! The Fort Pierre Chamber has the second weekend of the horse races happening this Saturday and Sunday at the Stanley County Fairgrounds starting at 1pm. We also have High School Triple Crown practice rodeos going on this weekend! Friday at the White River Arena, Saturday at the Tripp County Rodeo Grounds and Sunday at the Burke Arena.

Results from the St. Francis Invite

The St. Francis Golf Invite was held on Thursday in Mission. Winning the team title was Red Cloud as they finished with a 422. Cheyenne/Eagle Butte was second with a 478 and Todd County came in third with a 493. Red Cloud’s Payton Sierra finished first overall as she shot an 80, Paisley Sierra of Red Cloud was second as she carded a 98. Todd County’s Carli Olson finished third by shooting a 111. Kaycie Marshall was the top golfer for St. Francis as she shot a 129 on Thursday.

A warm seven days ahead?

After the recent cold, damp weather we have seen in south central South Dakota it appears the weather is making a turn for the better! Temperatures are expected to be in 70’s and 80’s for the next seven days. The next decent chance of precipitation is next Wednesday when there is a chance for both showers and thunderstorms. Reminders for next week

Remember that Colome Grade School’s annual Field Day is coming up for first through sixth graders on Monday, May 8th from 10am-3pm. A picnic lunch will be served at the Track. All parents are invited to attend. On Tuesday, May 9th, the Community Fellowship meal will be hosted by Hull Dental Health from 6-7pm at the Gregory Memorial Auditorium’s Community Room. The Valentine School Board will meet next week. Their meeting is scheduled for Tuesday the 9th at 5pm at Valentine High School.

Kuil to run in the 200 meter dash special event

Best of luck to Winner’s Cameron Kuil as he will be running in the boys 200 meter dash special event tomorrow night at the Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls. The race will get underway at 8pm at Howard Wood Field. Kuil will be running in lane five. Joining Kuil in the race will be Spencer Neugebauer of Mitchell, Jake Aanderud of St. Thomas More, Denzel Brown of Eden Prairie, Collin Brison of Sioux Falls Lincoln, Watertown’s Garrett Determan,Braiden Petersen of Brandon Valley and Alex Brosseau of Legacy, North Dakota.
