They will kick things off with a free birthday dance for all 2025 birthdays this Saturday, April 19th with Todd & Company playing all the tunes from 8 to midnight. What: Single vehicle fatal crash
Where: US Highway 18, mile marker 276, four miles west of Gregory, SD
When: 10:13 a.m., Sunday, April 13, 2025
Driver 1: 15-year-old female from Gregory, SD, life threatening injuries
Vehicle 1: 2001 Chevrolet Blazer
Seat belt Used: Yes
Passenger 1a: 15-year-old female from Gregory, SD, fatal injuries
Seat belt Used: No
Gregory County, S.D.- The driver was seriously injured and the passenger fatally injured in a one-car crash four miles west of Gregory, SD, Sunday morning.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling east on US Highway 18 near mile marker 276 when the vehicle drove onto the shoulder which was under construction. While re-entering the roadway, the vehicle spun and entered the south ditch and rolled, ejecting the passenger.
Both occupants were air lifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. The driver sustained life threatening injuries and the passenger died from her injuries at the hospital.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Results from Bartender Contest Saturday in Colome
The second annual friendly bartender contest was held this past Saturday at the Colome Legion.
3rd place went to Mary Kay Drees of the Homesteader in Gregory with her “G 3”.
2nd place went to Juli Brown of the Colome Legion with her “Strawberry Mudslide Jewel”!
The Champion was Gene Bertram who was defending his 2024 win – with his “Gene-o-Colata.

Community Connections to celebrate 50 years next month
Community Connections in Winner will celebrate 50 years of business on May 15th! From 3:30 to 7pm, there will be 50 raffle items up for grabs, along with snacks and drinks provided. Friendly Bartender Contest set for Saturday in Colome
Colome will hold their second annual Friendly Bartender Contest this Saturday, April 12th at the Colome Legion beginning at 6:30pm. Contestants will be judged on their signature drink, their technique and creativity along with their best bartender joke as well.
Melodrama presentation coming up in Valentine
The Old West Days Committee is excited to present the return of the popular melodrama “A Golden Fleecing” during it’s great lineup April 24th through the 27th, at 3pm each day at the Valentine High School Auditorium. We had a couple of local elections take place Tuesday in our listening area.
In Gregory there was a seat in Ward 1. Unofficial results are 23 votes for Alex Hamilton and 7 votes for Sam Lee. Alex Hamilton is the projected winner for Ward 1.
In Oacoma there was one position open for a 3 year term on the Town Board. Unofficially, Robin Hutmacher received 46 votes, Kellan Clark received 9 votes and Roger Twamley received 1 vote. Robin Hutmacher is the projected winner of the 3 year term.
