Earlier this year, Ivy Rose Heron of Winner pled guilty to charges of Conspiracy to engage in the sex trafficking of a child. On October 21st Ivy was sentenced to 84 months imprisonment followed by 5 years supervised release along with a $2000 assessment and a $100 special assessment.

Pie and soup supper coming up this weekend in Clearfield
A benefit pie and soup supper will happen this Sunday, November 2nd from 4-7pm at the Clearfield Hall. Stop by for delicious homemade pie and soup! There will also be a country store with all kinds of homemade goods and a silent auction.
Trunk or Treat coming up in Gregory on Friday
The Gregory/Dallas Chamber will have trunk or treat take place in the Gregory School parking lot this Friday, October 31st from 5-7pm. They will have a haunted bus on site, and they will be taking pictures of kids in their costumes for the paper. Avera will also offer trick or treating on Friday from 6-7pm.
Moonlight Madness set for Thursday in Valentine
The Valentine Area Chamber of Commerce will hold Moonlight Madness on Thursday, October 30th from 6-9pm on Main Street in Valentine. Area businesses will be staying open later with some great deals that will be happening. Individuals will have the chance to win gift certificates and chamber bucks!
National FFA Convention in Indianapolis next week
The 2025 National FFA Convention will take place in Indianapolis October 29th through November 1st. The Winner FFA Livestock Evaluation team will be in action on October 30th, representing South Dakota! Gregory County FFA will also be attending the convention as well. Good luck kids!
Benefit Dart Tournament coming up November 22nd in Colome
A benefit dart tournament will take place for Rita Pravecek on Saturday, November 22nd at the Colome Legion. It will be round robin team 501 format and will be limited to 18 teams and 3 divisions. Craft and Vendor Fair set for this weekend in Springview
The 16th annual Springview Hometown Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair will take place on Saturday, October 25th from 10am-3pm at the Keya Paha County High School and Grade School. The Hog Trough from Valentine will be providing the concession stand and there will be approximately 50 vendors to explore!
Witten Fire Department to hold hunter’s breakfast again this weekend
The Witten Volunteer Fire Department is holding their annual free will hunter’s breakfast again on October 25th and 26th from 7 to 11am at the Witten Community Hall. They will be serving pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage biscuits with gravy and more!
Dallas Trail Ride coming up Saturday
A ‘tougher than nails’ trail ride will take place on Saturday, October 25th at the Dallas Horseman’s Club Arena beginning at 11am. A supper will be served that day starting at 4pm at the Dallas Fire Hall. This is a fundraiser for Suncatcher Therapeutic Riding Academy.
Kucera is sentenced
This afternoon at the Federal Courthouse in Pierre, the sentencing of 67 year old Richard Alan Kucera of Winner took place.
For Count 1 of Sex Trafficking of a child, Richard received the minimum sentence of 10 years.
For Count 2 of Sex Trafficking of a child, Richard received the minimum of 10 years.
Counts 1 and 2 will run concurrent to each other.
For count 3 of Production of Child Pornography, Richard received the minimum of 15 years.
For Count 4 of Production of Child Pornography, Richard received the minimum of 15 years.
Counts 3 and 4 will run concurrent to each other and consecutive to Counts 1 and 2.
Kucera was found guilty of two counts of Sex Trafficking of a Child and two counts of Production of Child Pornography following a four-day federal jury trial in Pierre in July.
