Food drive happening in White River

A Hearts for the Hungry food drive for the White River Food Bank is being held now through this Friday the 16th. Food donations can be dropped off at the White River Schools. Priority foods that are needed include: instant dried milk, canned food items, 100 percent fruit juice and unsweetened cereal. The drive is sponsored by the White River Food Council. Blood drives coming up next week

There will be a blood drive in Burke on Tuesday, February 20th from 11:45am-5:15pm at the Civic Center. To make an appointment call Vickie at 830-2447. Colome will hold a blood drive on February 22nd from 2-5:30pm at the American Legion. Call Vicki to make an appointment at 842-0270. Bonesteel will host a blood drive on February 22nd from 9-12:30 at the Community Center. Call Jeff or Laurie at 654-2831 to schedule an appointment.

Call the Winner Transit or the taxi for a ride!

If you are need of a ride in Tripp County, then you have two choices: Call the Winner Transit. The Transit runs Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm. It is $2.50 per stop, two dollars per student and three dollars out of town, with a maximum of a two mile radius of Winner. Call 842-5633. You can also try calling the Taxi Service in Winner too. The number to call is 840-4207.

SDSU certification classes coming up

SDSU Extension will be hosting a private pesticide applicator certification class on Friday, February 23rd in Presho from 1-4 at Hutch’s Café. For more information contact the SDSU Extension Office in Winner at 842-1267 or call the Pierre office at 605-773-8120.There will be a class in Bonesteel on Monday, February 26th from 6-9pm at the City Hall.

Fundraiser to be held in Platte

There will be a fundraiser for Christa Peterson, a teacher in the Platte/Geddes School District. Christa was injured in a fall in January. There will be a meal on Saturday, March 31st at the Platte/Geddes School over lunch time. This will be a free will offering event with proceeds to go toward Christa’s recovery and show the community’s support towards Christa and her family.

Winner Regional news

Winner Regional Healthcare Center is asking for assistance of the public and patient families in helping stop the spread of influenza. Due to the increase in influenza cases in the community, visitation is discouraged at Winner Regional Healthcare Center, including the hospital and long term care center. This step is meant to protect the health of patients and residents.

Tuesday reminders

The Burke Livestock Auction will hold their monthly horse sale today with tack selling at 1pm and horses to follow. The Cherry County Planning Commission will meet at 4pm this afternoon in the Cherry County Commissioners Room in Valentine. The Mellette County Commissioners meeting scheduled for today has been postponed to a later date. Also keep in mind that the Mellette County Courthouse is closed until further notice.
