Thursday morning rain reports
We had a good number of people call in their rain reports this morning: Stan Bicek, who lives ten miles south of Colome, received .80 overnight. Joe Bolton received an inch 60, 17 miles southeast of Colome. Rick Odenbach told us that he received .80 west of Hamill. Janice Gruhn in Gregory reported a half an inch. Kelly Pravecek, six miles southeast of Winner, reported .40. Donna Howland, two miles southeast of Winner, had a quarter of an inch fall. William Soles, five miles east of Gregory, told us he received an inch. Boyt Young, fifteen miles east of Winner, reported an inch 20. Jo Carlson, east of the Winner Airport, received a half an inch. Stacy Rayman told us she received an inch and a half 25 miles east of Winner. Pete Haukaas in Okreek reported .02. Tracy Tritle received a half inch ten miles east of Winner. Short Haley said he received .40 in Colome and .42 at Haley’s Hiway Lumber. LaWaynie Hossle reported an inch 15, southeast of Hamill. Delbert Klein, four miles east of Burke, received .80 overnight. Dennis Hansen at Carlock said he had an inch 95 fall last night. Fred Weidner at Dog Ear Lake reported .13. Audie Larson in Hamill reported that a tornado came through their property last night. Liz Farley received .20 southwest of Winner and Richard Bailey reported .87 3 miles south of Burke.
Pole Bending and Barrel Racing returns next week!
There will be a pole bending and barrel racing event next week in Valentine on Tuesday, July 24th. Entries will be at 5pm with the jackpot series to start at 6. There will be peewee, youth and open divisions. This is the final leg of a five run series. If you have questions you can contact Beth Till at 402-389-2424.
Enhanced Concealed Carry Course coming up
An enhanced concealed carry course will be held on August 12th from 8am-6pm at the Rosebud Arrow, Rod and Gun Club in Winner. This class will qualify the applicant to get a South Dakota enhanced concealed carry permit. The cost is $150 per person. Relay for Life event coming up in Platte
All cancer survivors, caregivers and family members are invited to attend the 19th annual Relay for Life of Charles Mix County on Saturday, July 28th at the Platte Legion from 10am-4pm. Sweet Lu’s Tacos will be there! Attending survivors will receive t-shirts and caregivers will be recognized. If you plan to attend, please contact Karen at 605-680-1655.
Youth Day Camp to happen Thursday in Gregory
Gregory County Farmers Union will be hosting a youth day camp on Thursday, July 19th from 1-4pm at the Gregory City Park. This is open to youth ages five through twelve. The camp is free to children of Farmers Union members and it costs five dollars for non-member children. Snacks and beverages will be provided. This will be a fun learning experience for all who attend!

Certain parts of Central South Dakota saw a good amount of rain last night. Bob Dickman, received 2.20 inches, seven and a half miles south of Gregory. Chuck Keiser at Jordan Hill reported an inch 90. Charlotte Piper, nine mile south of Wood, reported .65. Liz Farley, LaWaynie Hossle, Greg Haukaas, Rick Odenbach, Dione Rowe and Tresh Swedlund said they did not get any rain. Sharon Eddie, west side of Winner, said she had .42 fall. Jane Tuttle in Burke reported a quarter of an inch. Greg Assman, five miles west of Winner, said 3 and a half inches of rain fell overnight. Pete Haukaas in Okreek reported .25. Donna Howland, southeast of Winner, reported .25 as well. Ray Hannett, east of the Winner Airport reported .94. Short Haley received .34 at Haley’s Hiway Lumber and nothing in Colome. Wilma Harter said she received 2.70 in Witten. Boyt Young received just sprinkle 15 miles east, northeast of Winner. Duane Schmidt received 2.4 inches three miles west and a mile north of Winner. Jo Carlson reported .60 east of the Winner Airport. Richard Kingsbury in Wood had an inch 20. Linda Dimond had an inch 40, six miles northeast of Wood. Randy Antoine reported an inch at Golden Prairie Manor.
Benefit raffle coming up in Clearfield
A benefit raffle will take place during the Clearfield Hall’s 100th Birthday renovation! They will raffle off a Weatherby Vanguard II Sporter .257 gun that has a Weatherby 24″ Blued barrel, walnut stock with a Nikon Pro Staff 3-9×400 mm scope. The drawing will be held July 28th. Entries due next Monday for Miss Rodeo Cherry County
Don’t forget that Miss Rodeo Cherry County is adding a Cherry County Rodeo Princess Contest and is open to girls ages nine through fourteen as of January 1st. Blood Drive to happen Wednesday in White River
