Colome will host their annual Cowboy Fair on August 15th. A corn hole tournament will happen at Skatetown from 3-5pm, root beer floats will be served at the legion from 4-5, bingo will happen at the legion from 5 to 6:30, a farmers market will be setup at the park from 4 to 7, a dunk tank will be setup on Main Street from 5 to 6:30, and a cowboy supper will be served on Main Street from 6:30 to 7:30.

Benefit set for August 29th in Burke

Accident in White River results in fatality on Saturday
A person was killed after being struck by a semi-truck on Saturday near White River on Saturday on Highway 83. According to the Mellette County Sherrif’s Office at approximately 11am, a semi-truck traveling south bound on US Highway 83 struck a female, approximately eight miles south of White River. who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Rosebud Sioux Tribal Police are investigating the incident. Further details will be released in the coming days.
Winner Fire Department holding annual Poker Run today
The 14th annual Winner Fire Department Poker Run is happening today! Registration will go from 11am to Noon at the Winner Fire Department. They will leave town at 12:30. Prizes will be awarded at the Pheasant Bar at 6:30pm. It’s just $25 per ride, or $40 for a couple. All forms of transportation are invited to take part.

Rhoden wins republican nomination for South Dakota Governor
Tuesday was election day in South Dakota. In the Republican runoff race for South Dakota Governor, Larry Rhoden defeated Toby Doeden. Rhoden received just over 70 percent of votes, as he received a total of 83,582 votes, while Doeden received 34,430 votes. Rhoden will now face Democrat, Dan Ahlers, in the upcoming November Election for South Dakota Governor.
Tripp County Commissioner meeting to happen on Friday
The public is encouraged to attend the Tripp County Commissioner meeting on Friday, July 31st at 10am. On the agenda will be a request to the County Commissioners to hold a public meeting regarding the passing of an emergency zoning ordinance. This ordinance will set a temporary pause on the establishment and construction on any new large scale commercial livestock confinements, which will allow the county to conduct critical studies that are needed on public health, infrastructure, electrical and water use.
