North Carolina Tar Heel Men’s Basketball Coach Roy Williams will be the featured speaker at this weekend’s All-Star Banquet that will take place at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls beginning at 7pm. Williams’ Tar Heels won the national title a season ago against Gonzaga. The all star weekend will wrap up on Sunday with a couple of all-star games that will feature some of the top basketball players in the state.

The Rosebud Casino will be holding their annual dart tournament on Saturday, April 14th! There will be one hundred percent payout and it is limited to the first forty two teams who sign up. USD Coyote Senior Carlton Hurst put on a show, despite finishing fifth in the annual State Farm College Slam Dunk Championship in San Antonio. Hurst was able to get 33 points from a panel of four judges, that consisted of George Gervin, Sean Elliott, Bruce Bowen and Nate Robinson. Joseph Kilgore of Texas A&M- Corpus Christi won the event that features eight of the nation’s top dunkers.

The Minnesota Twins will look to build off the success they had last season when they open the 2018 campaign in Camden Yards again Baltimore this afternoon against the Orioles. Two seasons ago, Paul Molitor’s team had a league worst 59 wins before they appeared in the playoffs last season against New York. Newcomer Jake Odorizzi will take the ball on the mound for the Twins this afternoon against Baltimore righty Dylan Bundy. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05. Go Twins!

The South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association has released the Girls Class ‘A’ All-State Basketball Team. Morgan Koepsell of McCook/Central Montrose was named the player of the year. Locally, Todd County’s Caelyn Valandra made second team all-state as she averaged over 19 points a game in her freshman season. Winner Sophomore Morgan Hammerbeck made third team all-state as she averaged over 16 points a game for the Lady Warriors.

The 12th annual Great Plains Senior All Star Basketball Games will take place on Tuesday, April 3rd at the Barnhart Gymnasium in White River! Doors will open at 5pm and the girls game will kick things off at 6pm. Halftime of the girls contest will be the girls three point shootout. A dunk contest will be done after the girls game wraps up followed by the boys all star game. Halftime of the boys game will be the boys three point shootout.
