A few weekend reminders

It will be a busy weekend in our neck of the woods! Friday night, the Brule County Relay for Life will run from 6-10pm at the Chamberlain Community Center. Saturday, Stella’s Food and Spirits in Burke will have live music on the patio from 8pm to 1am as Courtney Haysting and Wyatt Isburg will be providing the tunes! The Lakers Mighty Mo Car Club’s 23rd annual Car and Truck Show and Shine will happen Saturday from noon-3pm at the American Creek Campground in Chamberlain. The Keya Paha County Fair and Rodeo is happening Friday through Sunday at the Fairgrounds in Norden. The 106th annual White River Frontier Days Rodeo is going on through Sunday at the Rodeo Grounds and the 77th Atkinson Hay Days are taking place Friday through Sunday!

Youth Outdoor Day to happen Saturday

Just a reminder that the Tripp County Pheasants Forever Chapter #99 will hold a youth outdoor day this Saturday, August 19th beginning with signups at 8:30am at the Rosebud Arrow, Rod and Gun Club in Winner. The event will run from 9am to 1pm and is free to kids ages five to sixteen.  For more details you can call Mike at 840-9992 or Tim at 830-0220.

Cowboys ready to take on the Tornadoes tomorrow night

The defending 9B State Champion Colome Cowboys will kickoff their season Friday night in Centerville as they battle the Tornadoes. With numbers being down a season ago, Centerville played a junior varsity schedule and won a couple of games. Coach Pat Sees said with numbers being up this season they look to get back on track against very good competition. The Cowboys return a good core from a season ago. Juniors Layton Thieman, Wyatt Cahoy and Jackson Kinzer will lead the Cowboy attack out of the backfield this season. Kickoff tomorrow night will be at 7pm and pre-game coverage on Magic 93 will start at 6:30.

Keya Paha County Fair to begin Friday

The Keya Paha County Fair and Rodeo will run August 18th through the 20th this weekend at the Fairgrounds in Norden! Activities for Saturday will include the 4-H Horse Show that starts at 8am. 9:30am will be the open class judging, 1pm, the 4-H Livestock Show will happen and the MSRA and NSRA Approved Rodeo will take place. Check it all out this weekend at the fairgrounds!

Health supplies drive ongoing in Winner

Community Connections in Winner is holding a “off to a healthy start” health supplies drive for local schools now through Friday, August 18th. Donations of tissues, hand sanitizers, cleaning wipes etc. can be dropped off at the donation boxes located at Winner Sooper Foods, Winner Food Center, Dollar General, Family Dollar or at Shopko. Help the kids get off to school on a healthy start!

Volleyball and Golf get cranked up next week

Our area high school volleyball and golf teams are getting ready to see some competition beginning next week! On Tuesday, August 22nd, the Bon Homme volleyball team will come to Winner while Platte/Geddes will play at a tournament in Hanson. In boys golf on Thursday the 24th, Chris Caldwell’s Chamberlain golf team will head to Mobridge for the Mobridge/Pollock Invite. Good luck to all of our area athletes this season!

Wolverines to play in Rapid City tonight

The Jones County/White River Wolverine football team will kickoff their season tonight out west when they take on Rapid City Christian. The Wolverines look to build off their 2-6 season last year. Ron McLaughlin’s Comets went 0-8 in 2016 and look to start their season with a victory on their home field. Jones County/White River will be road warriors at the beginning of the season as three of their first four games will be played on the road. Best of luck to Coach Troy Krogman and the Wolverines this year!
