Hunt Safe class coming up in Winner

A Tripp County Hunt Safe Class will take place this Friday, July 28th from 6:30-9pm and on Saturday, July 29th from 8am-5pm at the Rosebud Arrow, Rod & Gun Club in Winner. The classes are open to ages eleven and up. Students must attend both class sessions. To register, go to gfp.sd.gov/hunt-ed, or you can call Tim at 605- 842-0855.

Special celebration at Carlock this weekend!

Come help Dennis Hanson and the Carlock Dance Hall celebrate as he has been selected as “Promoter of the Year” by the South Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame! A reception will be held at Carlock Dance Hall on Sunday, July 30th with music starting at 2 and lunch will be served. There will be a fundraiser to help provide music supplies to the Gregory Elementary Music Education Program. All of us here at KWYR want to congratulate Dennis on the great honor!

Races back in Pukwana and Stuart this weekend

The races are back this weekend! The lawnmower racers will be back in action Saturday night at the Puk U Bar in Pukwana starting at 8pm. Calcutta will be at 7:30. The races in Stuart, Nebraska will be back on Sunday night! Gates will open at 5:15 and races will get going at 7 as it will be a regular night of racing. This weeks race sponsor is Dairy Queen.

THE CLASS B STATE LEGION BASEBALL TOURNAMENT WAS WON BY VERMILLION POST 1 YESTERDAY AT LEAHY BOWL AS THEY BEAT SPEARFISH, 3-1. BILLY MOUNT, WHO ENDED UP BEING NAMED THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT, PICKED UP THE WIN ON THE MOUND. IN REGIONAL TEENER BASEBALL FROM TUESDAY IN CORSICA, COLOME BEAT PLATTE IN GAME ONE IN FOUR INNINGS BY A FINAL OF 19-4. IN GAME TWO, CORSICA WAS VICTORIOUS OVER GREGORY, 7-2. TYNDALL BEAT COLOME IN THE NIGHTCAP, 19-0. THE ACTION WILL RESUME AT 2:30 TODAY AS PLATTE WILL PLAY GREGORY FOLLOWED BY CORSICA AGAINST TYNDALL. AMATEUR BASEBALL FROM LAST NIGHT, IN THE DISTRICT 3 TOURNAMENT IN MILLER, KIMBALL/WHITE LAKE WAS VICTORIOUS OVER CHAMBERLAIN, 5-3. TONIGHT AT 8PM, FOUR CORNERS WILL PLAY PLANKINTON FOR THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP AT 8PM IN MILLER.

 

Winner watering restrictions

The City of Winner has adopted the following watering restrictions: The hours of watering will be from 6pm to midnight and from 5-10am, no lawn watering during any other time of day or night. Houses and businesses with uneven address numbers water on uneven numbered calendar days and those with even address numbers water on even numbered calendar days. These restrictions will be implemented immediately.

Rain reports

We had a good amount of rain fall in certain parts of the area last night. Gene Engel, south of Winner, received 6.3 inches. Jim and Victoria Bowling, 11 miles south of Winner received five inches. Judy Bartels in Witten received just .05 as did Wilma Harter. Vivian Sweeney received 70/100’s. Fred Weidner reported an inch 76 at Dog Ear Lake along with fires and lightning. Monty Hopkins recieved an inch 40, 15 miles southwest of Winner with a good amount of wind. Dennis at Carlock called in 15/100’s. Short Haley had .14 at Haley’s Hiway Lumber and .70 at his home near Colome. 2 miles southeast of Winner, Donna Howland called in .20. Pete Haukaas in Okreek had .45 fall. Stan Bicek, 10 miles south of Colome, called in 90/100s. Liz Farley said she received .85, 12 miles southwest of Winner.

State B Legion baseball

The final four stage is set for Monday night at Leahy Bowl for the State B Legion tournament. Sunday, McCook Miner beat Dell Rapids in an elimination game, 8-4. Game two, Winner – Colome eliminated Platte Geddes, 10-5. The nightcap was won by Vermillion as they shutout spearfish, 10-0. Tonight at 5, McCook Miner will play spearfish followed by Vermillion taking on Winner – Colome on 93.7FM.

Region Teener Baseball starts tomorrow in Corsica!

Teener Regional Baseball will get underway Tuesday in Corsica as three games will take place. Starting at 2:30pm, Colome will take on Platte. At 5pm, Gregory will face off against Corsica followed by the winner of game one taking on Tabor at around 7:30. If Gregory were to win the tournament this week then the runner up would also make the state tournament since Gregory is this years host of the state b tournament.
