Kimball softball players headed to nationals!

Kennedy Leiferman and Alison Sinclair of Kimball will be heading to the USA Northern National Tournament that gets underway Thursday in Mankato, Minnesota! Leiferman and Sinclair play on the Mitchell-area under-14 softball team. The team has gone 25-6 this season and finished second overall in the state tournament. They will take on Sleepy Eye Minnesota in the first game of the tournament at 9am Thursday morning. Good luck girls!

Wall that Heals to be on display next week

The Wall that Heals, a Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica and mobile education center will be on display next week in Central South Dakota. You will be able to check it out August 9th through the 13th at the rest area off I-90 in Chamberlain. The display will be open to the public 24 hours a day. If you would like to volunteer to offer visitor assistance at the wall, please contact Ann Thiel at 234-6049.

Chamberlain gearing up for American Island Days

Don’t forget that American Island Days are coming up in the river city of Chamberlain August 19th and the 20th! There will be a 5k zombie run on Saturday the 19th at the Busted Nut parking lot along with the Mighty Mo Car Show and the Ag Olympics that weekend too. Twins Talk returns today

Twins Talk with host Chris Doski returns this afternoon on Country 1260 and tonight on Magic 93! Chris will reflect on the crazy week involving former Twins pitcher Jamie Garcia with a local Minnesota Twins fan. They will also discuss if the Twins can get back into the race for the American League Central Division as Cleveland and Kansas City have gotten hot over the last couple of weeks. Winner Junior Legion to play Warner on Friday

The Junior Legion State Baseball Tournament will get underway Friday morning at 10am in Groton as Lennox will take on Clairmont/Britton. Game two will feature Wessington Springs battling Redfield at around 12:30. At 5pm, Winner will take on Warner in game three followed by Mission facing off against the host of the tournament, Groton at around 7:30. Best of luck to Mission and Winner this weekend at the State Junior Legion Tournament Friday through Sunday!

Monday reminders

A benefit potato supper will take place in Winner tonight and will be sponsored by the Legion Auxiliary from 5-8pm and will be a free will offering. Proceeds will go to help with veteran, community and youth events in the area. The city of Winner will host a public meeting at 5pm in the City Council Chambers this evening. The meeting will focus on Winner’s Main Street and whether it will continue as a one way street. Today is the deadline for girls to get entered into the Miss Rodeo Cherry County contest. The contest will happen August 9th and 10th. To enter call 402-376-1879.

Retirement Auction in Gregory this evening

Jack Clark at the Gregory Livestock Auction will be holding a retirement auction this evening beginning at 5pm at Gregory Livestock. He will be selling off lots of gates and panels, posts, miscellaneous livestock items, tools and more tonight. State 'B' Amateur Baseball Tournament gets underway Wednesday!

The State ‘B’ Amateur Baseball Tournament gets underway Wednesday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell! The Winner/Colome Pheasants will play in the opening game of the tournament as they will play against Dell Rapids PBR at 5:30 Wednesday. Elsewhere locally in the state tournament, the Platte Killer Tomatoes will play on Saturday  evening at 5:30 against Canton. Good luck to Platte and Winner/Colome at state from all your fans here at KWYR AM and FM!

Coverage of State B Teener Baseball on Magic 93 Friday night!

The State B Teener Baseball Tournament will get underway Friday afternoon in Gregory! Gregory will play in the nightcap against Parker at around 8pm. Pre-game coverage with Chris Doski will start at around 7:30 on 93.7FM. Coverage of the tournament on Saturday will be on Country 1260AM as KWYR will cover Gregory all throughout the weekend. We also would like to wish the best of luck to Kimball/White Lake at the State Tournament in Gregory.

Golf from Saturday

Plenty of golf took place in Central South Dakota and North Central Nebraska on Saturday. Laura and Addy Root won the championship flight of the two lady best ball tournament that happened Saturday at the Winner Country Club as they carded a 74. Lynn Demers and Becky Littau won the first flight as they shot an 81. Stacy Rayman and Shelley Kindt won the second flight by shooting an 82. At the Ainsworth Golf Course, Donita Painter and Darlene Ehlers won the championship flight at Saturday’s two person ladies tournament. The first flight was won by Penny Waits and Kendra Cleal. At the Murdo Golf Course, Denny and Carson Moore won the Murdo Ford Tournament as they ended up with a 66. There was a tie at the Lyman Alumni Golf Tournament Saturday. John England, Daryl Sterry and their teammates Steve and Sarah shot a 33. The team of Dustin and Brooke Smith along with Carey and Roger Dooley shot a 33 as well.
