Amateur Baseball from Thursday

Day two of the Class ‘B’ State Amateur Baseball Tournament is in the books at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. Lake Norden beat Miller/Wessington in game one yesterday, 4-3. Game two was won by Garretson as they were able to hold off Wynot, 5-4. Game three was won in shutout fashion by Freeman as they beat Milbank, 4-0. The nightcap was won by Larchwood as they defeated Plankinton, 6-2.

 

Winner and Mission ready for State Tournament in Groton

The State ‘B’ Junior Legion Baseball Tournament will take place this weekend in Groton. The tournament will get underway at 10am Friday as Lennox will take on Clairmont/Britton in game one followed by Wessington Springs against Redfield. At 5pm, Winner will battle Warner followed by Mission playing Groton. Best of luck to Mission and Winner this weekend at the State Tournament that will wrap up on Sunday.

Orientation set for August 15th in Winner

Winner High School Orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 15th at 6pm in the Winner Armory for students entering grades 9-12. Parents must accompany a student to complete paperwork so they can be allowed to pickup a computer and take home. Middle School Orientation for grades 6-8 will take place on Thursday, August 17th at 6pm in the Armory. Students will receive schedules and other information during the meetings. Blood drives coming up in Butte and Burke

A blood drive will take place in Butte, Nebraska on Tuesday, August 22nd from 2-5:45pm at the Butte Community Center. If you would like to make an appointment you can call Phyllis at 402-832-5777.  Another blood drive will happen at the Burke Civic Center on Wednesday, August 23rd running from Noon to 5pm. Winner/Colome takes down PBR

The Winner/Colome Pheasants were able to set the tone early in the opening game of the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament at Cadwell Park last night as they took down Dell Rapids PBR, 8-2. The game was delayed a little over two hours in Mitchell due to rain. Derek Graesser was the winning pitcher as he struck out eleven and allowed only four hits. Austin Richey had a big night at the plate for the Pheasants as he went three for four and drove in three runs. Graesser, Jared Donahue and Reed Harter each chipped in two hits apiece for Winner/Colome, who advance to take on the Vermillion Grey Sox on Sunday at 5:30. Vermillion was victorious over Clark, 11-7.

Winner/Colome ready to battle Dell Rapids PBR tonight in Mitchell

The State B Amateur Baseball Tournament will get underway at 5:30 this evening when the Winner/Colome Pheasants take on Dell Rapids PBR at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. Coverage will be provided by Steve Morgan on Magic 93 starting at around 5pm.The Pheasants are 15-8 and have defeated multiple solid teams this season, including the win over Alexandria back in late May. PBR had to battle through the Cornbelt League Tournament to earn a spot at state. Dell Rapids was just 1-13 in league play in the regular season before they started to catch fire in the playoffs. They beat Hartford/Humboldt and Colman to punch their state tournament ticket.

Dave Ramsey classes to start August 15th

Just a reminder that Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University classes will be offered at St. Mary’s Hall in Winner beginning Tuesday, August 15th. The classes will be two hours long once a week and will go for nine weeks. If you happen to have any questions in regards to the classes feel free to give Tom a call at 605-519-8009.

Burke reminders for the week

The Burke “Dog Days” will be held this weekend! Dog Days will run Friday,  August 4th through Sunday, the 6th with events planned each of the three days, including live music, golf and the alumni parade. In other news, kids can come to the rock in Burke for some Summer Son on Thursday, August 3rd from 10:30-11:30am. It is open to kids in fourth through eighth grades. Lots of games and fun with a bible lesson!
