Children's Play set for this week in Winner!

The Winner Community Playhouse will be sponsoring a summer play this weekend! The dates are Thursday, July 20th and Friday, July 21st. The cast for this play is filled with children going into fourth through seventh grades for the upcoming school year. If you have questions you can call the director Molly English at 605-842-1818.

Veterans Stand coming to Gregory

There will be a veterans stand down at the Gregory Lanes parking lot on July 24th from 10am-2pm. All armed service veterans and their families are welcome. Please bring a copy of DD214, dependent information and identification. Services provided will be food, clothing, VA benefit, housing referrals, employment services, legal assistance, counseling and plenty more.

Coverage from the State B Legion Tournament Friday!

Chris Doski will have coverage from the State B Legion Baseball Tournament this weekend on 93.7FM! Friday at 5pm, Chris will have coverage of the Platte/Geddes vs Dell Rapids game followed by McCook/Miner against Winner/Colome at around 7:30. Pre-game will start at around 4:30 as Chris will be visiting with the coaches and also break down state jr teener tournaments going on too!

Sunshine League Amateur Tournament to start on Thursday

The Sunshine League Amateur Baseball Postseason will get started this Thursday in Parkston. In game one, top seeded Alexandria will play Wagner at 6pm followed by two seeded Winner/Colome taking on the Platte Killer Tomatoes at around 8pm. On Friday, Parkston will play at 6pm against Mt. Vernon followed by Dimock/Emery taking on Corsica/Stickney.

Winner Elks Rodeo to get underway July 28th

The 48th annual Winner Elks Rodeo will take place at the Tripp County Fairgrounds July 28th through the 30th beginning at 7:30 each night! The proceeds from the rodeo this year will benefit the Lifescape Outreach Program. If you would like to enter call 842-5830. There will be ranch bronc riding each night to go along with team penning, mutton bustin and a candy scramble for the kids. If you have questions you can call Ron at 842-2838.

 

Valentine news for the week

Coming up tomorrow, the Valentine VFW will meet at 7pm in the meeting room at the Veterans Club. On Friday, July 21st, the Cherry County Planning Committee will meet in the Cherry County Commissioner’s meeting room in the heart city starting at 9am. Also on Friday, the Valentine Arts Council will host an acapella group beginning at 7pm at the High School Auditorium in Valentine.

Day two of girls state softball was held Saturday in Sioux Falls. In the 12U C Division, the Burke Royals were able to defeat the Dakota Valley Panthers, 3-2. The Winner Lightning fell to Elk Point-Jefferson, 11-3. Platte/Geddes lost to Blue Thunder, 11-4.  In the 14U C Division, Gregory beat U14 Wicked, 8-2 in their first game of the day before Gregory went on to beat Mitchell Adrenaline, 14-2. Gregory then fell to Scotland, 9-6 last night. In the 16U C  Division Saturday, Zoom was able to win a high scoring game over Clearfield, 12-11. In the 18U C Division, Pierre Fast pitch beat Burke, 8-1. Burke came back Saturday night to beat Tyndall, 13-12. Platte was busy yesterday as they started off by beating Parkston, 10-4. They then went on to beat Power, 4-2 before taking down Dariy Queen, 9-5. Baseball from Saturday, Platte/Geddes won their Region 4B Legion Semi-final game against Tabor, 12-4. Before the win against Tabor, Platte/Geddes fought back to defeat Corsica/Stickney, 15-7. The Winner Junior Legion squad  beat Brookings in Sioux Falls Saturday, 10-0. Winner then fell to Sioux Falls West, 20-6. Golf from Saturday, Rich Crow Eagle’s team won the championship flight in yesterday’s four person scramble at the Winner Country Club. The highlight of the tournament came on hole seven as Chris Phillips made a hole-in-one!
